Hi everyone,

I post a little on the dog boards, but never on here. My cat Piper, is just a little over a year old, and as a kitten was always affectionate, and never into things-perfectly content with her toys and cat condo (and continually bothering JT my older siamese mix) anyway, recently she's just insane, constantly jumping on the table, literally in the fridge and oven(thankfuly it wans't on I was just getting ready to clean it) and she rarely lets me hold her anymore. I've taken her to the vet, and everything is normal. My mom thinks it is because I have a new siberian husky, but they get along great, she sleeps on his back every night, and they play constantly----so I'm just stuck as to her weird behavior.. any suggestions?!?!?!

LOL - sounds like she has found her "kitten side"! My orange tabby Naranj, literally bounced off the walls the first year I had him. He has only recently started to calm down. He jumped on everything; tried to jump in the oven(heart attack), in the fridge, on the cabinets, the china cabinet, the bar, the dishwasher, stood up against my artificial fig tree and dogwood tree and would knock them over while I stood there watching him! LOL When he finally got strong enough - he would jump on the entertainment center (7 ft.).

My Sasha is like that too right now. She's on the wrong side of every cabinet door, or the fridge, or whatever (thankfully, she hasn't tried the oven yet, but the microwave is fair game). This morning, she and Belle (my 45-50 lb dog -- see my sig) were running and jumping, playing on the bed (and I was still in it!) Sasha kept attacking her head and biting Belle's throat. Belle showed marvelous restraint, thankfully, and just rolled on the kitten (like she smelled bad or something) and didn't try to bite or anything. The kitten is always after the dog's tail, too. Since Belle's a setter mix, she has that beautiful long hair on her tail...just more tempting than any cat toy. Unfortunately, Sasha has also recently developed a fascination for the potting mix my houseplants are in...more cleaning for me. Hopefully she'll outgrow the craziness soon.

Your cat just got a new play mate, one with her level of activity, the husky! A 15 year old cat - Siamese or otherwise - is just not going to bring out the kitten side of your cat. The older cat did set an example of how to act, and the young one emulated that. Now, she is seeing another example, and it is FUN! Kitten crazies are pretty normal around here, especially up to 2 years old. Then it does tapper off a bit. Beware of the oven and refridgerator, as you have noticed, also the microwave and the washer and dryer. I always leave the doors closed, even when not in use. A spray water bottle will help train her that countertops are off limits. Then sit back and enjoy the show!
