I went to a temp agency today. They had a recent copy of The Forum, a free magazine distributed by some city organization, there.

In it, they had an article about Pet Savers (a nonprofit organiztion). I was reading about how in Shreveport (caddo parish) they put to sleep 70 dogs and cats every day. That does even't count the shelters in Bossier City (bossier parish) across the river. Anyways, they listed a phone number at the end so I am going to call and volunteer tomorrow. :)

By the way, Bossier is on one side of the river and Shreveport is on the other. It's more like one city which is probably why it is referred to as S'port/Bossier. Kind of like Eugene/Springfield, Pasco/Kennewick/Richland/Dixie, etc.

I live over near Monroe moving north into Union parish. I can believe that number from the amount of strays I see running around here. Since it has gotten so hot, I haven't seen as many. I can only hope they were caught and put down rather then suffered and died out in the heat. There is no shelter in Union parish at the moment. There is a group working towards one in combination with Lincoln parish and the Humane Society.

Good for you to volunteer and lend a hand. It is really needed :(

Oh wow! :) Nice to meet ya! So how many of us are there here now? You, Laura, and me... isn't there one other?

Yeah, the woman was talking about how some of the surronding parishes don't have anything at all but they do have an enormous amount of strays. She has adopted out 65 dogs, cats, and other furry ones. You're right, hopefully they were able to catch most of them as the heat is no good. :(

I am waiting to hear from this woman, who is fostering some kittens in really bad shape. She made a post about needing litter boxes so I am giving her our (clean) old one and some liners. :D Whew, I am glad I didn't throw it out!
