What a splendid idea! It always looks fabulous. Will Yogi be there? How is it for beasties? Should I bring my industrial strength insect repellant?

Maresche
07-27-2006, 07:06 AM
I've got the suncreen and Bug repellant. Just pass them around.

I love camping, especially camp cooking. I make a mean smore, baked potato and chili, but what else can you expect from a former Girl Scout?

Oh boy, camping! Needless to say I love camping. Are any of these sites long enough for a 45 footer? Yep, roughing it smoothly is the name of my game. ;)

I've got the refrigerator and a real stove if anyone needs them because I know sometimes coolers and campfires just aren't enough.

I make these potatoes over the fire. Slice little red potatoes onto aluminum foil, add lots of butter, onion and seasonings, wrap them up good and cook for 20 minutes a side over a good hot fire. Yum-me! :D

As long as we've got 50 amps to plug into, I've also got an ice maker in the freezer so we should have plenty of ice for the slushies.....as long as we don't drink them too fast.....sometimes the ice maker can be a little slow. ;)

We're not really going camping again until probably Labor Day weekend and I've been going through withdrawals, so this Thursday is just what the doctor ordered - oh boy! :D
Oh boy!

Yay - camping. Sounds like lots of fun. :D With Debbie's amps we should be able to plug in the blender and make some slushies. Now that's roughing it.

Are we anywhere near a lake or stream to go fishing?

gini
07-27-2006, 09:39 AM
I have a battery operated blender I can bring.

Yeah, roughing it................that's the best.

Roughing it? Camping out for this City gal is no room service :p

I LOVE Yosemite! I have cousins who actually live there (well, not really IN the park, but close). Leslie (my cousin) is still in the hospital recovering from a horrific automobile accident just before the 4th of July. :( The good news is that she IS going to walk again, but it's going to take a while. She has a LONG road of recovery ahead of her.

A cuppa tea for me and I'll just sit here with the orange kitten in my lap enjoying the view of El Capitan and Bridal Veil Falls - ain't nature grand?

Redd,

For this thursdays, the part of the portable bear will be played by......(drum roll, please)

ORC!

He looks mighty funny with them fake ears and wearing the throw rug!

While we're singing camping songs.............

In a cabin in the woods,
little old man by the window stood
Saw a rabbit hopping by
knocking at his door.

Help me help me help me he said!
'fore the hunter shoots me dead

come little rabbit come inside, safely to abide.

or the alternative version......

In a paad in the forest green
Little hermie was surveyin' the scene
Came a rabbit, boppin' by, rappin at his door!

That sounds great Richard, but did LH tell you he doesn't like to do anything for recreation (sleep on the ground in a tent) that the army makes him do as work?

I can do a real mild chilli and definitely some cornbread and watermelon and bring on the s'mores. Nothing goes better with camping than beer, if you please.

07-27-2006, 08:15 PM
Here you go, Karen. Guess I got some of the words wrong, but the idea is the same. Think of 30 girl scouts sitting around a campfire on trees that had been cut down and laid around the fire - no comfy camp chairs here. Girls broken into two groups of 15 each with the counselors taking whichever side they choose. Or, if it's a smaller group, the counselors would sing the first round (large letters) and the girls would sing the second roung (small letters).

Everybody now!!!

http://www.angelfire.com/mi2/campsongs/bear.html

PS - about those logs....they don't make the best camp chairs because when the fire is big, you're WAY too close to it and it's too hot, and when the fire burns down, you can't just pull your chair closer. Much better to just have a moveable stump. Much more mobile, but be careful after you've had a few slushies because they're not near as stable. ;) :D

rest of the night? REST OF THE NIGHT??!?! The second Richard mentioned Bear I've had the song stuck in my head, and it probably won't go away until next week sometime now that I know the words again.

I wonder if those counselors knew how damaged we'd all be by that song. ;)

Spend some time exploring the Web Site ...
There's sections and Forums explaining the Hobby of Geocaching VERY well!

Do some reading BEFORE you by a GPS Receiver ... you might want to get a
Hand-Held that's from the same family as the Rollin Howze's GPS.
These days the Garmin Line is a major favorite because of warranty, friendly tech support,
and other issues.

I go out with "The GeoMutts" and we pretty much have a blast!
They've actually "spotted" a few caches when I was clue-less!
"We" log our stuff on the web site under "DogDad".

How about green eggs and ham?

When I was a GS we went camping with a group of Boy Scouts (with more than adequate suprevision, I assure you). Anyway, Friday night they made us dinner and Saturday morning we made breakfast. They thought they could gross us out with green spaghetti.

We DID gross them out with green eggs and ham!

Mmmmmm....nothing better than pancakes and bacon made over an open fire.

Phred, we've already got a hand held GPS. It's what we started with long before we got a built-in one in the motorhome. Worked OK hooked to the laptop, but I like the built-in one soooo much better for the motorhome. Kinda hard to lug the motorhome along on a hike though. ;) I don't have time to look into in more depth right now, but when I do get the time, I'll remember that you're "in-the-know" and will talk to you then.

Ok everybody, up and at 'em! It's gonna be another hot and muggy one today, but that's no reason to hide under the covers - UP UP UP!!!! (thought you might like that better the bugle call and "GET UP YOU PUKES") ;) :D

Hi everyone.....

I got stiuck on the side of Half Dome....the rangers had to come and pluck me off the face....Nothing like a cute Ranger coming to my rescue.....Talk about a woman in uniform....But I digress....

Mario made it up, no problem.....He laughed and laughed until he saw me crying and then he came back down, took the note I wrote on the granola
wrapper and went for help......

Thank god he has the same good taste in Rangers that I have...

Let.s cook up some lunch....Trout, Taters or corn....a likke salad and a drink to settle my nerves...

(Oh and some talcum powder for my chafing....those climbing harnesses rub me the wrong way.)

Guess what KK! I just snagged some fresh Eastern Shore sweet white corn!! Let's go stash it in the creek husks on, then throw it against the coals later .. That will certainly go well with the rest of the stuff. Well, not so well with pancakes and breakfast  but it is getting on afternoon here :) and even later in the day for you! mmmmm

Hey Laurie, LH just checked in from Indiana on his way to OK and said find some seaweed to put on top of that corn and throw some clams and lobster and crab in there and let it cook!

Ouch Richard, here have my chair I'll use Fred's since he's not here. what would you like to drink I'll be happy to get it fer ya!

O.K. - here I am with dinner!!

I am going to need some help with these fellas - they are pretty big.

Get out the really big pot that we brought - and put it over the roaring fire
filled with water!

Is the water boiling? Ha - yes it is!

I stashed some potatoes wrapped in foil into the fire - they should be ready about now.

PLOP - PLOP - PLOP - into the water they go!

I am off to melt some butter..................

Anyone want to guess what we are having for dinner?

Laurie, quit shoving me out the way - and Richard too - darn it. :D :D .........there is plenty for everone

Playing hookey from work today to renew the drivers license (forgot it expires on my birthday) and take care of some other stuff. Nice talking to you Slick.. one of these days I'll have to do something about my stupid phone  Love you guys madly :D

Richard, the good Dr is referring to the HUGE amount of cash we'd have to pay the owner of a REAL bar to move this out of online and into reality for a few days. :D

I think it's called a BBQ and Gini's cover charge is QUITE reasonable :D but I do agree ~ perhaps we would be "banned in Boston" but not if we brought The Mayor ;)

I pray that one day we can make a dream like that come true.

At the beginning of the Second CA BBQ Gini and I picked up Slick at the airport...

We took Slick to her hotel and went to the bar to have a drink before we called it a night...

When the drinks came Slick got this look in her eyes and said something like....
"It's Thursday night and we are having a drink!!!"

And you know.....Everyone was there.

The most wonderful thing about PT and Thursdays is that everyone I meet carries that feeling to the next PT gathering....

There is a lot of heart in this thread every week...

We just have to find a place big enough to hold it all! ;)
