Windows Movie Maker?? Help please.

So I am making a movie, and I can't figure out how to put a video on. :confused: I had the videos under .mov and then I saw it wanted .avi. So I changed it to that and then when I import the video it says something like this
cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have tried to download and installed the codec, close and restart the windows movie maker and try to import the file again. whats the codec? I thought I had this program already downloaded and so I did restart windows movie maker. Maybe there is a better movie maker program out there better then windows movie maker?

See if this helps. If Debbie had her laptop at work today, she would do this herself!
