my dog threw up worms after a car ride

what can i do to take the worms out and to prevent them from coming back. The works were long and thin. The dogs are only 4 months old. What could have caused them to g et in them. Once one my dogs found a dead bird and brought it home and I ussually let them drink water from a lake. Could that have cause it?

Get him to the vet, they can administer a dewormer.

As Karen pointed out, you will need to make an appointment with a Vet.

Your dog will be given medication for this condition, and likewise, you will be briefed on preventing it again in the future.

sounds like round worms, but I've never heard of a dog vomiting them.....
worms are very common, especially in puppies. Most pups are actually born with them already and the vet will usually deworm them at their first puppy visit. They can get them from many things--eating poop infected with them, fleas/flys laying eggs in their food, etc. Definitely get to the vet; its easy to get rid of them, but they can take up alot of your puppies nutrition if they are left untreated.

As others have already stated, it is a relatively simple procedure. Some medicine and regular admistering and soon enough, they are all gone. But do go and get it taken care as soon as you can.

If a puppy is severely infected with parasites, it can vomit them. There was a GSD puppy at the vet clinic I worked at many years ago that was HBC. After surgery while the pup was still sedated, the parasites crawled from his mouth and anus. It was the worst infection I had ever seen and probably ever will see. Fortunately for that little guy, his owners never returned and he spent the next 10 years with me ;)

Please take the pups to the vet. The treatment for roundworms is relatively inexpensive in the great sceme of animal medicine.

The roundworm life cycle: Intestines--> blood stream--> lungs --> mature worms migrate back to the intestines.

Puppies pick them up from the mother. The Vet can will give them a puppy deworming. When your dog(s) are adults, then a once a year deworming with Panacur will keep infestations low.

P.S. With Panacur I always give them a Zantac first to keep any stomach acid reaction down.

I agree with all the recommendations about taking them to the vet. Talk to them about which de-worming medicine to use. They will probably look at a stool sample and find out what parasites are in the pups and give you a medication that will take care of all of them. I use one that also includes heartworm preventative medication and is given monthly. Depending on what parasites are common in your area, different medications will be more suited to your pups. I do not recommend going to your local big-box store (aka WalMart) and buying over the counter products, since they are usually much less effective in general. I tried this first, not knowing any better, and it did absolutely nothing for my dogs, and I followed the box directions exactly.
