Molli is going to the groomers and I need help deciding how her face should be clipped. My mom doesn't like the 'square' look she usually gets... she wants her face shaved. What do you think?
Her fur will be this short. This is the 'square' look...

Or this shaved look...

In my personal preferance, I like the "square" look. I find it to be rather cute, and almost gives an adorable mustache look. :D

Personally I like it shaved. :) I always see the dogs come in the shop when they are booked in, looking like raggamuffins, but after they've had their face shaved they look so elegant, like real little poodles.

I like the shaved look too. It's always good to try something new, her hair will always grow back!

I like the square look. The shaved look is good for shows, but, I like to see the square look for home. :)

I personally prefer the square look most of the time (only maybe with a little less hair on the top of the head), it's so cute & kind of puppy like. BUT I also love change so I'd have to do a shave every once in a while. lol
I think now that it is summer time it would be a great time to try the shaved look. At least you tried it on her & can see for yourself which way you prefer. If you don't like it it will grow back. If you want it to grow back into a square cut it will save ya money too as it will take a little longer to grow out before she will be due to have another cut.
Either way she will look cute, she always does! :)

Square. No offence, but I don't like it when people do odd things to their dogs fur. That's why I don't watch dog shows often. I especially dislike poodles and chinese crested with no fur in some places, but fur in other places. I just think about the dog and wonder how stupid they feel. I find it looks much nicer with fur everywhere. No offence, this is just my personal opinion !
I saw a poodle on the street the other day and it didn't have the cut and it was unbelivebly cute ! At first I didn't even belive it was a poodle.

We had a poodle at work that was cut to look like a schnauzer with thw bottom half long and the face long, but the rest shaved. Possibilities are endless with that hair.

I saw a poodle on the street the other day and it didn't have the cut and it was unbelivebly cute ! At first I didn't even belive it was a poodle. Most dogs cut for the show ring are cut for the work they do.Like the poodle, that cut is to protect their organs because they are hunting dogs. And Chinese cresteds can come in powder puff wich means they are all hair.I dont think the dog acres how they look when they are bron that way.Chinese cresteds are my second favorite dog..and they dont shave them to be bald.
And Lori shaving a dog with long fur in the summer isnt a good thing. Just because they have less hair dosent mean they are cooler.Long haired dogs have a special coat that keeps them cool in the summer warm in winter.
I like the shaved look.

they're born like that? ! ?! :o I was looking at getting a power Puff at one point and I read in a book that "You don't have to shave them, there are varieties that aren't ment to be shaved, like the power Puff" Stupid book....
lol yep they are born like that, there are 2 varietys hairless and powderpuff. some people DO shave the hairless chinese crested but thats just to keep the already hairless skin smooth and free of stubble

Thanks everyone for their replies. I'm still not sure what I like, but I will go with shaved because we've never done that before with Molli. Hair always grows back, so if I find a prefer the square look, I'll do that next time. I won't leave any poofballs at the ankles or anything. She isn't purebred poodle so it would look very weird. Her hair is very curly by her shoulders and upper back... but in the rest of the places it's just crimped looking. And she doesn't get her hair cut until August 2nd... the day before we move. So sadly, you probably won't be able to see it because the computer will be packed away by then. Maybe I'll ask my uncle to use his for a sec to post a couple pictures. :)
Greyhoundgirl, like buttercup said, poodles get their hair cut like that because that's what working poodles hair is like. It's to protect their organs from the cold when they swim.

Personally I like the square look, because Molli has such beautiful coloring. But shaving her will probably be more comfortable in the summertime, and she'll look cute either way.

Ooh, I like that cut! I'm coming to gripps with the hair and I can actually see myself getting a standard poodle some time in the far future.
And yes, Long haired dogs are more easily able to regulate their body temperatures in the summer WITH their hair!

I've owned two poodles and have always favored the puppy clip for them.

i always liked the square cut best. i know there is a reason for the other cut, but i always thought it looked silly.*sorry to anyone that has a poodle with this cut.*

Looks good in either cut, but if I had to chose one, it would be the square.
