For the Newer Pet Talkers, and anyone else who hasn't seen the
sometimes "lengthy" posts devoted to Planning these Events,
and the always enjoyable "Reports" (complete with extensive
Photo Coverage) of the Events ~

Here's a capsule summary of What Goes On:

We "Gather" at the very nice Hancock County Park District "Dog Park" in the
north-western corner of OHIO.
Facilities include:

* A 2-acre fully fenced OFF-leash Dog Park - with picnic tables, running water,
a few shade trees, grass, a lil mud, a collection of toys & balls -
a fine place to let a Friendly Pooch *romp* with other dogs.

* And 100 feet away ~ An enclosed (on two sides) Covered Picnic Pavilion
with concrete floor, picnic tables to seat 90 or so, electrical outlets,
2 charcoal grills - and enough Food & Covered Dishes to feed a mid-sized army!
(We NEVER go away hungry!!)
We Reserve and Rent the Pavilion - so there's no risk of it being "occupied"
by anyone except our Pet Talk Gang.

* Within 500 feet - there are two CLEAN Rest Rooms ~ OK, they don't *flush* -
but they ARE "clean", have concrete floors, and locking doors!

* A large, paved parking lot is within sight of the Dog Park and Pavilion.

* Many wooded Trails through the beautiful Park are available, but most
Folks hang with the Gang in the Dog Park or at the Pavilion.

* Food is casual / picnic stuff - everyone brings a lil extra to share - and as
said before - ya won't be hungry when you leave!

We can't stress enough that EVERYone is More than Welcome!!
We were all "strangers" when we came to our "first one" - and most everyone
who has been to one keeps coming back!

About the only "REQUIREMENT" is that the DOGS have to be "Registered"
to enter the Dog Park area.
Not a "big deal" - but it's da LAW!
If anyone is coming that has dogs that aren't "Registered" with Hancock PARKS -
it costs $10 - for up to THREE Dogs - and is good for the entire year.
PM me at "Cinder & Smoke" and I'll fill you in on the Registration procedures -
allow about 10 days to send for and receive your Permit.

I'm workin' on it....

Having a bit o' trouble coordinating a flight. I have to be in Tempe, AZ on the 30th for training classes on the 31st and 1st. Since it's work, they prefer to make the travel arrangements however I'm getting absolutely no where with them.

I'm just about to say to heck with 'em and book my own flight out on Saturday (no more flights out on Friday night) but there's some problems with that, too...

I'd like to make it up again this year, especially after falling in love with my aunt's puppy, Sophie. Maybe under better circumstances she'll be able to join us in Findlay.

However, I'd also like to go to Utah sometime after the 15th (no pets on Delta before the 15th.) So.. I'll have to work something out.

. . (A Copy of the Office Visit Receipt is fine if the SHOTS
. . are noted & has Vet's Name on it).
. . DATE needs to be within ONE Year of now.

3) COPY of RABIES Vaccination Receipt ...
. . DATE within 1 or 3 years - depending on the vaccine used;
. . Most Rabies Receipts show an EXPIRATION date for the shot -
. . Rabies Vacc must be "current" (not expired) and Signed by the Vet.

4) All Dogs must also be "Licensed" by the City, Town, County,
or State where you LIVE. Fido should be *wearing* his/her License.

Attn: Dog Permit
1424 East Main Cross Street
Findlay, OH 45840

Cost of $10 / year registers 1, 2 or 3 Dogs.
(From December 1 to December 31 of the Following Year)
You'll receive a Plastic Laminated "Permit Card" in the Mail -
BRING IT WITH you on visits -
they WILL be Checking Permits this year!!

A note about the "DATES" shown on your Receipts ~
Parks is "happy" if the Dates on the Vet & Rabies Receipts are
"Current" within the LAST 12 Months of when you send them in...
In other words; if Fido had his "Shots" anytime AFTER July, 2005 ~
he's Good to Go!

And a 3 year Rabies shot is good if it was given AFTER July, 2003.

I just have to check my calendar as my best friend is getting married at the end of September and there are wedding activities on many weekends between now and then! AAGGHH! But I would like to attend if I can. I have been watching this thread, and have been thinking about it. I would love to be able to meet some of the PT people and luvvable furbabies! Would there be an extra puppy for me to luv on during the day? I will bring treats and will do my best to get rid of the kitty smell on my clothes!

Our plans are still to be there however that could change. We noticed Tuesday that Sadie has a growth on her chest, and then found a second on her leg. Right now they don't seem to be a huge concern, although the vet did think they shold be removed them to be safe, as both are too small and close to the skin to remove cells and check. We will try to schedule surgery so she is healed in time, or after the gathering, but that will depend on how things go and assumes nothgin changes in size, appearance, etc.

If you don't mind, please send a good thought or two Sadie's way that these are just fatty tumors and that she'll be ready to party with everyone Labor Day weekend.

A lot of us are cat people too - Keegan lives with 2 herself! :) and she prefers kitties to dogs - only 2nd to PEOPLE!
She doesn't mind kitty smell
ANNND we've actually had 2 kitty visitors to the dog park!
Sammy - All creatures great and small and her daughter Yellow Lab Lover came and
Moo as in the Donna and Mooshoo duo! :)

We use the Super 8 Motel - far from "Ritzy" but cheap and almost clean.
You have to argue for the cheap rate;

The Findlay Health Dept. has posted that the park has raised levels of (something-or-other bacteria) in the water, and suggests that dogs with depressed immune systems should not drink it . Chances are healthy dogs will be fine. Many of us are bringing water for our dogs until the sign goes down. I will keep you updated closer to picnic time.

I would really like to come but on labor day weekend I will be in Berea with the National Dachshund Race for the german dog days.I will be there both saturday and sunday.all the funds go to the berea animal shelter.please pass the word about the races on sept.24,2006 at the hancock fairgrounds in findlay,it will be a lot of fun and information to.Eddie the toledo agilty dog will be giving a demostration along with the hot diggy dog drill team,and the agaily equiment will be set up for all to use,golden collar will also be setup with a demostration.
meet the dog breeds will be going on with many kinds of dog breeds if you would like to come out that would be great 7 dog rescues will be attending

Actually, I am very jealous - I would love to be there to meet all of you
and spoil the dogs rotten.

I also would love to taste an honest to God - home grown tomato too!

Ours in California taste like they were rinsed in sawdust and then put on sale.

Gini, I'm sure you would be more than welcome and we have dogs to spare.
There really is no comparison between home grown & store tomatoes.Eating
a home grown tomato proves why it's called a fruit, not a vegetable. :)

Sadie's surgery has been scheduled for Sept. 1, so she won't be coming to the dog park :( I feel bad that she has to miss it, but it was the best timing for us, since Ralph and I are both on vacation the whole following week and can be home to keep an eye on her and help keep her calm.

Of all goes well (and I'm sure it will), I'll probablly still come with Cincy and Spot, and Ralph will stay home with Sadie.

Got in at 1.40am-ish last night - hit weather during the flight back (I find that saying odd, afterall isn't it ALL weather?). At any rate, no harm done just a VERY tired Zippie. (3 more hours and I would've been up for all 24!)

Am just dropping a note as I'm frantically trying to tie up loose ends and get on the road. It's pouring the rain down here and I didn't calculate "inclement" weather into my driving time (rain?! in the desert?!). Kinda worried about havin' to sit the night out in Houston -- been done before, will do it again if I have to, I suppose. :) (Say some sunshine prayers for H-town!)

ON a side note, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to my mom/dad (yesterday) and HAPPY BURSTDAY to my sissy (today). :cool:

It's Zip from Miss Staci's computer...

So far, I've met red dawg (and she's a doll baby), the infamous k-lo (who wasn't too sure of me at first then gave in to head skritchies), and finally princess kylie made a brief appearance and allowed me to touch her silky-soft fur.

Phred, I started turning down bags of peanuts... but still ended up with about 6 or 7 bags - they're all your's buddy!

We've been home for a couple of hours now. Just finished loading my pictures to Image Station. When we left, Phred, Staci, Tonya, Amy, Anna, Robin and Tim (and his kids) were still there. Amy just called and said she was on her way home. Phred, Staci and Tonya were still there. The weather was good, the food was wonderful, as were all the dogs and people. We had a great time. I was going to give her a hard time about this, but you beat me to it!!

We got home around 8, and boy was Sadie glad to see her siblings. She had a fun day with her daddy though, going to a local park for a walk, getting some ice cream and visiting her other grandparents (Ralph's parents).

we're home too -
made a leisure drive thru Findlay showing Tonya some of my 'hang-outs'. Mall, Walmart - etc :p
then to the other side of Findlay to show her the New Walmart - went in a pottied and bought a bottle of water for Keegan then across the street to Coldstone for ice cream that we ate on the way home.
Keegan was very quiet on the way home. :p

I saw the yellow wading pool in some pictures,
but it doesn't seem as critical as during the last picnic.
What was the temperature?

Temp at the Findlay Airport (a few milse west of the Park)
averaged 71* between 1:00 and 6:00 pm yesterday.
The HIGH was 75* at 3:00 pm.

Yesterday was quite a bit cooler and more comfortable than Memorial Day was -
and a LOT less humid.

Several of the Pups ran through the pool, which was refilled more than once,
but I didn't see anyone actually <swim>.

the temp was about 75 - nice day for the locals the New Mexican got cold tho :)
I think that Tonya saw Bowser - called him over to her and then when she started tearfully loving on him and he realized who she was.

It was an LES moment for sure. Such a sweet reunion. :) I was told that
Tonya had not seen Bowser since he was a puppy. I knew he had belonged

Great photos! Robin, I love the one of Sherman sneaking up on that bag of treats! Did you notice how close to the picnic table & goodies he stayed the whole time? :D These pictures will bring back wonderful memories in the gray winter ahead (at least for us mid-westerners). It was so touching to see Tonya greeting Bowser, and Robin, your picture captures how special it was! I think it touched all of us :) That moment really celebrates how special our bonds truly are. And I think my dogs recognize many of the people/dogs that attend, too! Thanks everyone for sharing your pictures!

Does Brutus have a blue eye? He's so handsome!Yes, he does! He's also very tall. I left when my SIL was ready to go home with her two boxers, but the the collies had not yet arrived. Thank you! They sure had a blast. When I got home they slept all evening and all night. Didn't wake up will 8 am and they are usually up and running by 6 am. Kane wore himself out trying to chase the boxers...lol...he never seem to be able to catch up with them...lol

Miz Tonya.
She visited wiff my Old Dad (who is her GranPaw) when I wuz just a LIL pup -
(yup - I used ta be even CLOSER to da ground) when we lived in da hillz of
West Virginny. Tonya an her Mom gib me my Furst Baff!

Sooo ... ta look extra *nice* fur meetin her again, New Dad hauled us ALL off to
da Beauty Shoppe last Thurzday fur a Baff, Blow, and Brush -
not ta mention da toe choppin on Tuezday nite.

Hope ebberbuddie got ta Rub my Rug - it'z da *Fluffiest* it's eber been!!

it wus too kold fur dat - we'd nebber get dry.

Snoopy started having seizures again. The first one was yesterday morning as I was getting ready for work. He did okay (I guess since I work 9-3) the rest of the day but this morning he had another one. I am now out of valium so I had to call the vet to get some. The vet is planning on calling me this evening to see how he is doing. Snoopy did the same thing about two weeks ago. Had one on a Sunday morning and then again on a Monday morning and then was fine until now. Sure wish we could come up with why he is having them. Keep our Snoopy in prayer!

Keep our Snoopy in prayer!You bet, Diana. He looked really good & was sooooo happy on Sunday, it was great to see him again. We'll keep him on our puppy prayer list.

I think there were alot of pups feeling especially happy on Sunday. Wish I'd had my camera when Phred's three "walked" themselves to the gate all hooked together on their lead - too cute! And Jack came out from under the table quite a bit - I got several nice pictures of him. (all on the link I posted). It was really a nice day for all.

I had 'em all coupled up on their 3-way Y-Thingy when we made a pit stop on
the highway - figgered I'd just leave 'em that way to make getting out easier.
We arrived and they started carrying on to get OUT of da Bus!

I let em out with the intent of hooking them to "their tree" while I unpacked ...
I THOUGHT they were hanging in the Pavilion while I got out the tie-out cable.

I looked over and they were being escorted through the double gates at the Park!

As I said in the Photos - this was the FIRST Tyme they played Happily & Quietly
IN the Park while I was OUTside of the Park!

I delivered Zippy to the airport
after a trip to Sephora and only getting 'misplaced'
twice. :eyeroll:
My stomach was in such an uproar from it we didn't even eat lunch as planned I dropped her off 3 hours ahead of time and I am home with most of the yard mowed and she should be just now boarding the plane!
I'll know better next time.

Prolly going to be Midnight (Eastern) or 10 pm New Mexico Time when she gets to her house.
