Lastnight coming out of KFC in the main St of our city my Mum and i saw a cat wandering up the side of the road (Very busy on a Friday night).. so being the animal loving people that we are, we stopped and i hopped out of the car and went a grabbed the cat and took it back to the car (So matted we cannot tell what sex it is).

As soon as i picked up the poor thing i could tell that it is literally matted fur and bones :(. Her/ his rear end looks infected and is so matted and smelly. I have not seen an animal so infested with fleas beofre this cat.

We spent a good hour starting to clean the poor thing up, and she (I think) will be off to the vets first thing this morning to be clipped back and given an anti biotic shot, and treated for fleas.

'Nuff rambling.....

Aww...even as rumpled as she is, she is a beautiful girl!

I hope she does well at the vet's - will be great to see her as she heals up/

Can you keep her while she does, and update pics?

She IS beautiful (or at least, she will be). I can't even imagine how uncomfortable she is with that cast of mats on her body. :( She is very lucky you happened by. Keep us updated.

Poor kitty. She'll probably need a lion cut, but then the fur should grow in beautifully.

Poor, poor kitty! But at least she managed to be found by you, little does she know her new life is about to begin!

Oh thank you for helping her/him. She seems beautiful.

How has she been behaving? Scared? Friendly? Hungry?

Have her checked for a microchip... I have the feeling she has people looking for her. She is to lovely NOT to have some looking for her. Even as she looks now, she is BEAUTIFUL, when she is cleaned up, she is going to be breathtaking.. Than you for stopping to rescue this lovely baby off the streets.

Thankyou everyone for all the well wishes, much appreciated.

Sorry about the delayed update everyone.. Twas a rough weekend :(.

Willow as she is currently being called looks as though she wont make it.. she has stopped eating, not going to the toilet etc. The vets were not able to get us in Saturday morning so she will be going later today. We also found out that she only has 1 tooth .. so cannot eat dry food/ kibble.

I realy think the kindest thing will be to put her to sleep unfortunatly.. unless the vets says otherwise.

*Sigh* I hope things start improving soon, starting to loose heart :(.

Can you get water into her - with a syringe? Fluids will help until you can get her into the Vet.

Please don't kill her! She needs a second chance. I hope you will give her that chance. She's beautiful.

Get something in her! Force feed if you have to. I can't believe she managed to survive on the streets only to die once she has been rescued. That is to hard to grasp.. Feed her baby food meat from a jar. TRY to get something in her.

Try chicken or turkey baby food. Get some water into her so she doesn't get anymore dehydrated than she already is.

*Sigh* We have been giving her water/ watered down pet milk. We are not going to let her starve and die naturally.

If the vets says that nothing can be done to save her then yes she will be humanly PTS.. better than living out her days waiting to die.

I can't believe she managed to survive on the streets only to die once she has been rescued.
And i cannot believe you would post something like this without knowing how frail she is . I know i would rather her be PTS than get hit by a car or worse.

I for one can tell how bad she looks from the photo. :( :( But of course, since photos can be deceiving, I did not say anything. I hope the vet feels that with a little supportive care, she can rebound. But I agree, being PTS humanely HAS to be better than dying a slow, painful death on the streets. Best of luck with her.

Prayers for dear Willow - and I know you will do what is best for this poor girl!

She is loved and cared for...I hope for the best, as she may be in shock.

I hope she rallies - I know you do, too!

If I lived near you, I'd run out and get some baby food for her to try.

hugs!

Well little Willow has started to eat again, she was just hand fed raw chicken with the dogs, she is also drinking well. She looked shocking last night and i did not think she would survive the night but things are looking up for her, she is moving around alot better aswell.

The vets wont clip her till she puts on some condition and gets stronger, she is still quite weak but better.

Jen and Catty thankyou both for understanding :). I will be sure to continue updating, and will add some new photo when i take some.

Hey - Willow has found love and caring and FOOD...hope she continues to perk up!

She was likely pretty out of it from her street ordeal...glad to hear she is reponsive.

More and continued prayers for her and you!

This is not the first time I have heard of a cat being "sent" by the angel of a recently passed beloved cat...it kind of seems that way, doesn't it? :)

hugs

It's so good to hear that little Willow is eating again!!!
I have just read the whole thread and was unaware of the situation until now. I know sometimes animals won't eat when they need the white blood cells, that would normally go to digestion, to heal with other things first. Plus the fact that your love has given her the will to survive and to eat.
Do you have a food processor?
Gosh, it must have been very difficult for you to watch her last night in this horrifying condition, not knowing if she was ever going to eat. God bless you for saving her life. I'm praying she makes it, and that you will take care of yourself, as well. I apologize for not knowing more about your situation, but have you considered keeping her? :)

I've known Laura's Babies a long time and I really don't think meant to offend anyone. I think she MEANT to say that it's a SHAME to see Willow finally be rescued from the streets and find a home, only to be PTS because she was so sick and frail, just when there was light at the end of tunnel. Does my explanation make sense??? No one can know how frail Willow, except for you. I'm praying that she will start to come around.

Please keep us posted. And thank you for being Willow's guardian angel.

Thanks moosmom, that is exactly what I was thinking when I posted that and anyone that knows me knows that.

I am so glad to hear that she is doing better and will continue to send good thoughts and prayer her way.

Oh my, I am so glad you spotted this little one! Poor baby - did they check for a microchip at the vet?

My prayers are with this sweetie. I know you will do your best for him/her, Rhi. I am so glad to read that s/he is eating!! :)

Thanks everyone :).

Well... turns out Willow was actually a male and named Smokey, a different vet checked for a microchip and found one. He is 15.5 years old, has a tumor on his shoulder and has some memory loss and is allowed to roam .

The owners said he will often wander off and be missing for a week, and then return home again. Their vet has said in the past that he should have died 5 years ago (They thought he would not survive this long) when they found the tumor , but he keeps on kicking.

I am glad he got to go home though, and hope he will be happy and pain free for his remaining time on earth.

Awww! That is wonderful that he had owners that wanted him back. I had a feeling that was the case. 15 years old? WOW! Poor baby with all those problems. Thank God you cared enough to stop and pick him up and he was able to find his way back home. I am sure you made his owner very happy!

WOW!! I am glad you found his owners, but what kind of a person allows a cat with a tumor, poor health and memory loss to just wander off??? That just makes me mad! I just cant believe it! I m glad that you were able to get him back on his feet! not sure how long that will last if his owners just let him run off again. You have a very generous heart! Smokey will remember his savior, I am sure!

I've missed this thread but I just wanted to say how wonderful it was that you took him in and did so much for him. It's great that his owners were found but I really hope someone pointed out to them that he shouldn't be allowed to roam anymore, poor old guy.

I know it's been explained but I just wanted to chime in on what Laura's Babies said, as I started reading this thread I too was thinking how sad that this cat might die after finally being rescued into a good home. I wasn't thinking that you were the cause, just that it was a shame now that he had a good chance he wasn't strong enough to make it and enjoy life with you.

Anyway, kudos to you and your mom for helping him! We need more people like that in the world!

I agree.

My vet didn't even let me consider not removing Spunky's tumor. She did it at reduced cost rather than let him suffer. I would have found the resources anyway. I wonder if the vet can contact the owners and ask if they would let him go to another home. He didn't get skinny and matted over a few days.

It never hurts to ask.

I am glad he got to be reunited (but I must admit quite a bot of  thinking that he'll be out roaming again tomorrow :( )

Best of luck to you Smokey!

You deserve lots of praise for what you did!! However, the " owner " needs to rethink that old Smokey roams and does not come home for a few days, considering his condition!!! I a way, I was hoping that you would be able to keep the cat!!! I hope Smokey's owner will act in a more responsible fashion!

Those So Called Guardians should have thier heads read for letting that poor Old Cat run free.
Thats absolutely awful to have a Cat that long, and not care for him.
AWFUL!
I would never have returned Smokey, I would have kept him where he would be safe.
