 I find this absolutely and totally incomprehensible.

Brett Myers, starting ace for the Philadelphia Phillies, hits his wife in public, and starts the game the next day.

I'm all for giving someone their day in court, but when arrested for hitting your spouse in public, in front of witnesses, the day in court seems a formality. Had I done something similar in the military, I wouldn't be in front of a platoon the next day, I'd be in the stockade.
Earth to Bud Selig?
What are you doing, Bud? You suspend, fine and order Ozzie Guillen to sensitivity training for using a bad word, but you let this piece of human detrius play in a MLB stadium the day after being arrested for spousal abuse?
I just don't get it.

Can I go hit him with a baseball bat with no consequences? Pretty please?

Which one? Selig or Myers?
Either way, I'd give you a free shot.

Myers, of course. And I want a good old-fashioned hardwood bat to do it with.
Bud Selig I'd just yell at. Vociferously, loudly, and emphatically.

LH,
Pro sports is so screwed up that when I read that story I didn't think he would pitch in the series.
Look at what that moron Mark Cuban did during the NBA playoffs.
He was fined 250 K- he then posted an email saying he would match that amount in a donation to charity...
All done, no problem.
I hope this ah's "one hitter" costs him big time..

Another case of where money allows you to do whatever you want...irregardless of what the law says.
I'll stand right in line with you Karen, I'd like to take a hardwood bat to this arse too

Brett Myers ~ Boooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Thank you for the address. I have written a letter. When will professional sports "get it"? Just because a person can run/throw/hit well, doesn't mean he/she should be given special privledges.
Also, regarding his wife posting bail... We had a similar family situation. Who is "sicker"? The person who abuses or the person who keeps taking them back? My stepdaughter has been with an abuser for 25 years. She finally got away from him. Moved to another state. After a year or so, she met a very wonderful man who wanted to marry her. Got scared. Went back to the abuser. Way, way deep down, she must feel like she deserves the abuse. She was scared when a man treated her well. :(

I called the commissioner's office this afternoon, and spoke to the weasel in charge of CYA.
I quote :
"Major League Baseball is aware of Mr. Myers' situation and is not taking any official action. It will be left in the hands of law enforcement. "
When I pressed the weasel and asked him how they could fine, suspend and order counseling for Ozzie Guillen for a word while doing nothing about Brett Myers and allowing him to start, he repeated the statement.
Looks like I'm going to let Baseball join the in the category of sports I completely ignore. This is going to be hard, as I'm a life long Red Sox fan, but to hell with them.

How's this for a bizarre twist:
Brett Myers has asked for time off from now until the all-start break to address his "off field issues". I find it disturbing that the person who started this is showing more class (all things being relative, anyone who hits their wife is a classless jerk) than either MLB(weasles unanimous) or the team he plays for (Philadelphia? The City of Brotherly Love? ).

I have to put a slight spin on this..
(No curveball jokes....)
This is more a moral/justice/common sense question.
WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU LET ANYONE SMACK YOU, GET ARRESTED, THEN GO BAIL HIM OUT?
LWTFIUWT?
I hope this 'one hitter' costs him big time.
----------------------------------
There was a book I read a while back and it was about the Crime Stats for Pro Football players.
It was pretty freaking amazing at some of the records some of them have..
Spousal abuse was in it but there were more serious things going down for those guys!

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU LET ANYONE SMACK YOU, GET ARRESTED, THEN GO BAIL HIM OUT?
My sentiments exactly!! If someone smacked me around, in PUBLIC no less, he'd have divorce papers served as quick as the ump says "YOU'RE OUT!!!"
As far as that wife-beating idiot is concerned, 2 word...
$$$$$$$$$$$$ TALKS
Look at Patrick Kennedy. The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. He was arrested for DUI. He got off (of course) and headed for rehab. Um, excuse me but does CHAPPIQUIDDICK sound familiar??? Again, money spoke and he was out of a pickle being pickled.
RICHARD,
You're right. If it were any old Joe Schmoe, he'd be in the pokey right quick!

Update, He's still making millions, he's still playing MLB, and neither the phillies nor MLB has done a damned thing to discipline this idiot.

AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!
I just called the Phillies and the girl acted shocked that I had called and actually offended. Her response, "I don't know what you mean ma'am, he's in counseling." When I said, "I guess that means that baseball isn't going to do anything." Her response, "I would assume they will do something if he is convicted." What ever happened to people policing their own kind.
And what kind of a moron is the wife by posting the bail...special kind of stupid....

"I would assume they will do something if he is convicted."
And the moral of the story is...it's ok to beat your wife as long as you don't get convicted. It's even OK to get caught at it, just not convicted.
