I have a question.. my family and I are going to Vegas on July 3rd and stay there for two days.. then we have 5 days to figure out what to do...and we return back to home (Ohio) on the 10th.. we are thinking about going to the Grand Canyon.. seeing the Hoover Dam.. and what else is there.. we are thinking about Los Angeles/Hollywood but we aren't sure about that yet... but any suggestions??? I mean, there has to be more out there to see around the Nevada/California/Arizona area... much needed help about this! Thanks!

We've done that - fly into Vegas, then travelled West, then East. Absolutely drive out to the San Diego Wild Animal Park in Escondido, CA - we did that - drove out from Las Vegas, stayed overnight in Escondido just the one night. We also drove through Zion Canyon National Park, which was amazing and lovely, on the way to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

I would do the 49-miles drive. It is not so far from San Fransisco. We did that in 1984, and it took my breath away! Here are some links

There are lots of other ideas in that first link!
Then, how about Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park?

Thank you! :)
Good suggestions... any else? We aren't so sure about California, because the Grand Canyon is 5 hrs west of Vegas.. and if we want to go to Los Angeles/Hollywood, it'd be 5 hrs east of Vegas.. my parents don't want to do A LOT of driving.. but then again, we'd have 5 days to do something out west after our stay in Vegas... but oh gosh, I'm excited to be in Vegas for the 4th of July!
I'm looking into Tombstone, Arizona, which looks like a cool city.. of the "old west".. hmmm are there any ACTUAL ghost towns??? We also want to see an actual ghost town... I know there has to be quite a bit out there in Arizona, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana.. but any near Vegas/Grand Canyon?

We went to CALICO ! It must be in the environment of Vegas, as we visited at the end of our trip. We were drivingfrom LA to Las Vegas to return our rented car and fly back home (which was St.Louis then).
That ghosttown was really neat!!
