I took Belle and Pippen in and found them to be heartworm negative. That is so great, I am starting them on Heartguard. But I will tell you this, I wont ever get shots for either of my babies again. I have done a lot of reading, and found that most of the shots you give them every year. Are either not needed ever again, after the first year of puppy shots that are given. Or they are not needed every year, but maybe every 3 to 7 years. Any ways I thought Pippen needed his last shots just to be certain he was covered. And he had such a bad reaction to it. He swelled up all over, and started to have a hard time breathing. You want to see a freaked out Momma, you should have seen me. I was a wreck. I was told to bring him back in. Well I live about a little more then a half an hour away. I knew he wouldn't make it that far. So I asked what I should do. They said give him some benadryl and drive him in. I ran into Wal-mart. I didn't have any at home to give him. I must have been a site running at full tilt into a busy Saturday Wal-Mart. LOL I can laugh about it now, because he is all right. But at the time I was so scared. Any ways I got him back to the vets with him pretty swollen up, but still able to breath not too badly. They took him back right away. And of course got me mad because I couldn't go with him. They brought him back after about 10 min, and says they gave him a steroid shot of benadryl. I was to wait there for 25 min to see if it worked. Mind you I had a vet tec that was not too nice at all. Very abrupt and pushy. I know it was almost time for them to go home, and they had a lot of patients waiting for them. But that is no way to handle some one who is terrified her baby is going to die. When I asked what I could give him after they past him as ok to go home. She said it real fast, so I had to ask again. She got annoyed with that. And when I ask how often I should be giving him these pills, she said it too fast for me to hear. So I just got annoyed and left to go up to the counter. I asked the lady behind the counter how often I should be giving him the benadryl. She was a lot more kind and told me just what I should do. Now here is the kicker. I think if you in some way are responsible for a pet getting hurt, then you should pay for it. I had to pay for the shot and that really annoyed me too. They tell you that you have to give him these shots, knowing that he might have a bad reaction to them. And then they make you pay to fix the problem. Well I don't care what they say, he isn't going to get them again. They said the next time he comes in he will have to have the steroid shot first and then the others, just in case. Well to me if you are allergic to something you don't take it right... Well enough of my long story, I just had to share that. It is still eating me up inside...

I know just how you feel. Once, when I took my dog to the Vet, he tried to pick her up by the collar , you know, to place her on the examination table.

She weighed nearly 50 pounds, and she yiped big time.

He noticed the look of horror on my face, and crouched down to pet her. Katie, my dog, was very affectionate. She was afraid of him and she licked his face. I picked her up on the table and the visit carried on-- right, NOT.

Katie develped an infection the next week,,she would not eat, and I knew it had to be something that happened when he carelessly man handled her.

We had to pay for an x-ray, medication, and I fed her soft food until she felt better.

I never went back to that idiot ever again, but, there are people in my community who swear by him.

I am still upset about it, even though Katie Lynn is gone.

My vet has been of the opinion that pets are over vaccinated for the most part. She gives rabies shots, and, that's about it once the puppy shots are done. She will give shots if the owner adamantly requests, but, for the most part, if you leave it up to her, she won't give much else other than rabies. I'm sorry to hear your boy not reacting well. :(
