I would just like to 'officially' introduce the newest member of the zoo crew, Garth!
Garth is a 7 year old Quarter Horse gelding that I will be leasing for the summer. Right now I have one good picture of him that I'll attach.
I've ridden him 3 times now, but today didn't go too well. I have to check with his owner when the last time his teeth were floated since he mouth seemed to really be bothering him.
He is pretty lazy, but once you get him cantering he has some speed! I'm starting my lessons on him on Tuesday, so I can start jumping him then.
I'm so excited! Until summer is over, I can finally tell people that I have a horse!!!! :D :D
Woot!!! YOu have a horse. You have a horse. Yeah, it has a nice ring to it.
I really hope the teeth problem isn't serious.
And that the jumping takes off nicely.
ahh he's quite lovely. sorry i missed the pic on the first go-'round. :)

Thanks! :)
My mom called his owner today and left a message asking her about his teeth and a few other things. Hopefully we'll hear back soon.
I watched he regular leaser in a jumping lesson with him, and he was great! He jumps over 2' 6" easily and has done over 3'. He seemed very happy and relaxed jumping.
I'll attach another picture of him for you guys...
(You can see in the picture how he is messing with the bit, he was doing that the whole time and even with just his halter on he kept doing something with his mouth, I'm not sure how to describe it, bt it just seemed like it was bothering him. Although, when he was eating he did seem ok, so maybe he was just messing with me.... )
edit: sorry you have to turn your head to see the picture the right way. I forgot to flip it.
beautiful horse! have fun with him this summer! :)

Thought I'd give everyone a little update.
His teeth seem fine now, his owner said they were floated about 2 weeks ago. She did say his mouth looked a little red in parts, but she wasn't sure if that could have been causing the problem. Anyways, he seems fine now!
I've been having trouble getting his bridle on for the past few days, but today he seemed to know I wasn't in the mood to mess around with him. (It was so hot out!) I got his bridle on him on my first try with a little help of a peppermint. ;)
I have to get a picture of him doing some of his tricks. He knows so many! He will stick his tongue, smile, shake his head, bow, give kisses, and give his paw. I got him to do almost all his tricks today, the only ones I didn't try were 'paw' and 'bow'.
My jumping lesson with him went well, too. We only did some small ones because I hadn't jumped him yet. He was such a good boy! The only time we missed a jump was when his owner came up to the fence and we both got a bit distracted. My mom said she'll try to get some pictures of us jumping next week.
Sorry for such a long update, but I'm just having so much fun with him! There is more I'd write, but I don't want to bore all of you with it! :p

Wow, Garth is GORGEOUS!! Congratulations Chrissy, he's absolutely beautiful, and you're so lucky to have him!! :D:D Oh, I wish I had better jumping days...I jumped an appy/thoroughbred cross yesterday and he usually jumps really well, but he was a MANIAC and would not jump for anything!! Then when I got a crop out, he about dumped me flying over the jumps! haha :p  ;)

Thanks everyone!
I had another lesson on him today, and it went really, really well! My mom took a bunch of jumping pictures, but most of them didn't turn out that great. The course didn't have any jumps near the side my mom was on, so she got a lot of butt shots. :p I'll attach a few of them. In some of them my jumping position is definatley not how it should be. I'm still getting used to a horse that you have to slow down while jumping rather than speed up. He was being a bit of a brat and bucking a lot at the begining, so that kind of threw me.
Sorry there aren't any trick pictures. The camera ran out of space. Plus, he was on turn out for most of the morning and I got him just as he was brought in, so he was a bit of a crab and wanted to go right to his food!

This summer, I really want to full lease a horse that I ride, Pride & Joy. He as you know, used to be abused, and so I am the only one that rides him. I rode him today and he was soo smooth and excellent. I just think he needs to be handelled a lot more and so does my instructor. I was just wondering, do any of y'all think that $425 is a good lease? I would have to ride him at least 3 times a week to get to $300, because 3x4=12 and then 12x$25=$300. If you're wondering where I got $25, it is that to ride by myself on the weekends without a lesson. Plus, I get two free lessons, priced at $50 a ride. That would be a hundred. So that would make $400. I haven't leased a horse before, so I don't exactly know what prices are good. Help is greatly appreciated!

If you lease a horse that means hes fuly yours but the owner can take him back when / if they want. And they pay the vet bills. So for that deal I dont think its a good price, I could lease for 275 a month and I get to ride whenver whereever I want and noone else can ride him.
Garth is cute you make a good couple.
