TN Meeting, Summer 07..

Well, I figured I might as well post this here in case anybody else wanted to come meet me..
Next summer, Jessica (BC_MoM) is driving from Canada to see me, and a few others who live more locally to me may also be attending. Anybody would be welcome to come, but you do have to pay for a hotel, since my mom would not allow me to have a bunch of animals in the house :p. If you'd like to come, please post in here, and I'll try to give some more info later!

I expect most of you are going to need a hotel, and pet-friendly one.. so.. I found the cheapest Pet friendly one.. and here's a link.

I'm still working on planning an exact location where we can all meet. I'm pretty sure it can't be at my house, since my mom doesn't want a bunch of dogs there. There's several park options, such as Winged Deer Park, and about 30 min away Warrior's Path State Park. Plus, if you guys don't mind paying $35, then we could go to the dog park where the dogs could run off-leash.

We go to visit Robin's family in TN quite often... but they live in Knoxville... They recently opened a brand new Dog Park there, I think in April, and its awesome. It has "doggie play ground" equipment and etc. :)

I'd LOVE to come, only problem is, my mom thinks people on the internet don't know my name or age or have seen my picture and that I just go on PT for the pictures and dog breed games. My dad (In Iowa) however, has no problem with it. My mom said as a matter of fact she'd never let me meet anyone from online but she was ok with we meeting Lexie at IKC because it was such a huge public place and because we'd be going anyway. I'll see if I can work something out. I have always wanted to see the south more than I have (Dallas and Arkansas) and my dad enjoys driving on long road trips with me. Perhaps I can convince him that there is a lot of good snake country down there. Brianna, are there swamps? He always talks about wanting to catch snakes in the swamps.
OOh I just looked at a map. I had no clue east TN is so close to Virginia! We went there on vacation this spring break and it took a LONG day's driving to get there, I loved Ohio. Mapquest says that Knoxville is 9 hours from my house. Not bad at all, considering my dad and I drove 12 hours. It's supposed to be 13 hours from my dad's house to Knoxville.

I think there's a Comfort Inn in Pigeon Forge; they're usually pet-friendly, (and might offer a group rate if we get enough people together). Pigeon Forge is usually a little less expensive than Gatlinburg proper, but it's close enough that we could go over there if that's where you guys want to go. (I think someone mentioned a dog park over there?)

Who's actually going to set up the meeting? He/she should get a head count on who can come for sure on whichever weekend is chosen, and then check rates/room availability, etc and let the rest of us know how much it will cost, etc. (No, I'm not volunteering :D )

I definitely am uncomfortable with one huge cabin for everybody to stay in...if we go to a hotel and each have our own room for us and our pet, at least we can lock the doors if one of you turns out to be a total slime-bag predator (not that I'm accusing anyone, but better safe than sorry).

I don't know if I can do November anymore. My mom needs a new car badly, so ours won't make it to Pigeon Forge. I'll have to ask her and see what I can do.. It would HAVE to be a weekend, because otherwise I have school, so maybe a Friday, Saturday, and we leave early Sunday or something? Of course we can't do Thanksgiving weekend.. and then.. hmm... I intend to come, with just Belle (1 dog). Maggie is no longer my responsibility :( , and is living with my almost-ex (just waiting for the papers to be signed), and I just am not up to taking the kitten somewhere like that; she'd go nuts. I guess we'll just have to brave the Thanksgiving to Christmas shopping season craziness or wait until after New Year's (I don't think you all want to wait that long, though).

I am also in near-desperate need of a new ve-hickle :) but have to wait for the title on the joint-owned SUV to be put in my name before I can sign off on the trade. Hopefully will have one by the time we have our meeting. As long as finances hold out and gas doesn't double in price (or anything else unforeseen happens), we'll be there. Robin's mother passed away on the 22nd of September and the rest of her family has gone nuts so we wouldn't have came up there for Thanksgiving any way. We were there in September though.

just came across this post and wanted to let you know there is a Lodge in Gatlinburg called Bradley's Court that is pet friendly and quite affordable at $55 night, its at light #6, I stayed there once last spring with my 2 newfs. oh and I'm about 15 min from Knoxville or ~ an hour from Pigeon Forge :)

I think I found the perfect hotel. They don't even offer an extra charge for pets :D.

Don't take it personally.

Summer is a busy time. Not everyone lives near you, and sometimes people can't afford the trip. Gas is sure pricey these days.

Especially if they are needing to drive a distance, there is then the added expense of renting a hotel/motel.
