Some of you may remember this post (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=106076) I made about Sadie. Well now tonight I notice her belly is very red so I take a look and the poor girl has these welts almost on her belly, legs and some on her neck and under her chin. I have no idea what happened to her. Did she get into something in the yard, poison oak? Did something bite her? Is this still a reaction from her shots? Is the spray the vet gave me making her have a reaction? Either way, I have given her Benadryl and we are heading to the vet's first thing in the AM. She doesn't seem bothered by it, she's not licking herself nor is she acting funny. She ate her dinner, well not all of it but neither did Maggie. She has been drinking water and doing her business normally. Everything else is normal except for her red belly. My poor girl. :( Her belly was warm to the touch, of course, her skin is inflammed. I did put some of the spray the vet gave me on her because it is an antibiotic/steriod spray. I have been spraying her with this spray since we got it so it's unlikely that the spray is what is causing her current issue. This is the spray (http://www.medi-vet.com/GentaVedTopicalSpray.aspx) in case anyone wanted to see what it is. If anyone who reads this can spare a few thoughts for my girl we would truly appreciate it. The vet did not put her on oral steroids because she could loose a few pounds and we all know what steriods do when it comes to eating. I will update as soon as we get back tomorrow.
Thanks so much,
Amber and Sadie

Poor girl! She'll be in my thoughts for a quick recovery, whatever this may be.
I'll be waiting for the update tomorrow. :)

My RB Killer(Chihuahua) broke out in a rash like that and we figured out it was from her lying in the grass. I didn't let her go in the grass for awhile and it cleared up. There may have been some fertilizer residue or something chemical still on the grass. With all the given circumstances, this may not make any sense at all Amber but it's a thought I had. With this heat we're having, I think lots more rashes and unusual breakouts, bites. etc. etc. will be the norm until summer is over. I hope Sadie gets better soon. Keep us posted :)

Poor Sadie.:( I hope she is ok. My neighbors dog had those welts on her and it turned out to be mosquito bites. Sort of like she was allergic to them. I hope they find out what's doing this to Sadie. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Well we are finally back from the white coats. Saturday's are always very busy there and we had to wait 2 hours to get into a room. Anyway, Sadie has Hives. That's what the welts are. Due to all of this dry weather we have been having, a lot of pets have been having allergies/skin problems. She is on Prednisone and Clavamox for a week and hopefully she should be good to go then. :)

Aww, poor Sadie. Just seeing this now. Do they know what caused the hives? Sounds like Sadie will get to spend more time inside in the air conditioning until the weather changes. ;)

Do they know what caused the hives?
They didn't say really what may have caused them but he did say with the dry weather we have been having a lot of allergens are about. She may have gotten something on her when she was outside. Either way she is doing much better this evening. Thanks again everyone. :)
