I live on a gravel road and we are the last house on that road. My problem is that my labs are not afraid of vehicles and have no idea that they can get hurt. They don't know to stay out of the way. They are particularly excited when I come home and the other day jumped right in front of me while playing. I drive VERY slowly so that I can keep an eye on them. Is there a way I can teach them to stay out of the path of a vehicle?? I cringe when I know the UPS guy is going to deliver a package. Any suggestions are most welcomed.

I'm sure it's not what you want to hear, but keeping them in a fenced area, kennel or on a tie out would be my suggestions.
I care too much about my dogs to let them run loose. All it takes is a few seconds and they are gone...forever.

Tether them to something. Better to have slightly restrained doggies than very squashed ones!

I agree! There was an earlier post of how a dog got hit by a car from not being controlled!! Poor thing!

If you are not there to recall them off of the road, then confinement is the BEST solution. A fence, crate, the house, etc. while you're gone.

Perhaps an electric fence would do. I border train all my pups when they are small so they know from the beginning their boundries.

Well, even if you drive slow it can end up disasterous. Try building a kennel for them, you can buy a large one for around $300. You can also tie them up on a limited amount of rope. And if you perfer not leaving them in a kennel or having them tied up, maybe an electric fence?

My dog chases cars so I have to keep him in the backyard...He even runs around the backyard like a maniac trying to chase the cars. But I know thats the only way to keep him safe without getting in the path of a vehicle...especially because he wouldn't listen to me at all if he was off lead.
