OK... here's one to warch. Amistad!!! I remember when it was out and the critical acclaim it received, but I did not get to see it. I'm not much of a Movie goer, so I usually only see movies maybe 5-6 years later - when I catch them on late night TV. WHICH IS WHY I AM SO TIRED TODAY!!!
AMISTAD is about a 1839 mutiny aboard a slave ship that is traveling towards the Northeast Coast of America. Much of the story involves a court-room drama about the Afrikan (Slave to be) who led the revolt. It is a horribly accurate portrayal of a terrible, terrible time in human history.
Watching it stirred up a whole host emotions from comtempt to embarrassment and sometimes even pride. It is truly humbling and makes you realize the terrible atrocities that mankind has bestowed unto others.
WHEN, WHEN WILL WE EVER LEARN. We are ALL ONE People. One people, one race - MANKIND!!! Did God not make us all? Why is it so hard to accept that despite our many cultural differences, we are really the same! We all feel, we all love, we all hurt and yes... we all are capable of hate!
If you feel like watching a movie worth your 3 hours investment, Amistad is a good choice. But be prepared to maybe be left on a downer wondering about all the madness and insanity that still surrounds us!!! :(
