Sebastian, as you may know is my 5 year old ferret. He had adrenal surgery in November of 2004. Recently he's had some liver issues, but has been cleared of that. Now he's losing his hair. Strange because the cause of that should have been relieved by the removal of both of his adrenal glands during the previously mentioned surgery. On May 6 we saw the vet and she gave him a single dose lupron shot to see if that made any difference. So far it has not. He's lost more hair on his tail and has now chewed his feet bald. Does anyone have any experience with this, know what might cause it, etc. I've left a message for the vet to call me but any other info I can collect would be a bonus.

He doesn't have fleas does he? Mine did. I would give it some brewer's yeast in it's diet. You can get a powder form at a pet store. Just put a tad of it in the food. Maybe a half a teaspoonful at the most. It's good for coats.
Maybe it's an allergy to it's bedding. Try a different bedding or shampoo.
My father raised ferrets but never seen this kind of condition you described. Sounds like an allergy or bacterial infection on the skin like my dog had. It may need some antibiotics if that is the case. Good luck!

Talked with the vet, she is concerned. We will be going in Thursday evening for a look see and likely a double dose of lupron. He's still able to potty, which is a very good sign if he's got adrenal issues. Oh dear, this boy has been thru so much and he's such a sweetie pie.

So we saw the vet last night. Sebastian weighs a whopping 1900 grams even!! He's a really big ferret. His tail is almost completely bald as are his hind feet. His belly is covered in a wee bit of peach fuzz. His back has guard hairs only. Good grief - he is adrenal again. As I stated before he had BOTH adrenal glands removed in Nov 04. But apparently they can grow back. This is what the vet believes is happening. So Sebastian had two lupron shots yesterday, one in each butt cheek. So he's got a sore bumble today. We will see if this gives him any measure of relief. My poor furball (almost furless). Good thing its summer and he doesn't need a heavy coat. Might have to knit him a sweater for winter.
