I was reading the odd news section on yahoo news and came across this. It is the very reason I despise some people. I can't stand lawsuit happy people at all and this lady takes it the extreem. I also have a friend who is a quadriplegic from a drunk driving accident so it hits me a bit more personally too.

Here's the story:

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A wheelchair-bound Los Angeles woman, who has repeatedly filed lawsuits over access for the disabled, got up and ran after police arrested her for fraud, authorities said on Thursday.

Laura Lee Medley, 35, had sued in at least four California cities over injuries she claimed she sustained while trying to navigate her wheelchair before she was suspected of fraud.

Medley, who claimed to be paralyzed from a drunk driving accident, was tracked to Las Vegas where police there took her into custody and then, when she complained of medical issues, to a local hospital, Long Beach prosecutor Belinda Mayes said.

"She gets to the hospital and while she's waiting for an examination, she gets up from the chair and runs," Mayes said. "Somebody remarked, 'That's where the great miracle occurred.'"

Medley sprinted through the hospital corridors but was quickly apprehended by police and booked pending extradition to San Bernardino, southern California, where she is facing charges of filing false documents, attempted grand theft and insurance fraud.

Medley has sued the cities of Long Beach and South Pasadena and counties of San Bernardino and Riverside over various injuries she claimed she sustained in her wheelchair. She was also being sought on arrest warrants by the states of Oregon and Washington, Mayes said.

Where I grew up, a lot of people tried to get on disability for different things. It always made me mad because my father was a coal miner - he had two back operations and worked for over twenty years before he finally got on disability. And then there are the people who have never worked a day in their life and just want to draw a check because they're too lazy to work. I knew a man who drew a check for having a "bad back" and yet he could manage to shovel snow all winter....I wonder how he manged that.....

When I cut my finger real bad at work, they got me off the boat and had me taken to the ER. Sitting in ER people would ask what you were there for and one girl asked and I told I was a cook on a boat and I cut my finger real bad. She instantly said "Oh? Great! You can go home and draw workmans comp!"...
I smiled at her and told her "Believe it or not, I am one of those crazy people who would rather WORK than be laid up at the house bored to death and I am a COOK!! What is a cut finger to a cook anyway?"... The shocked look on her face was priceless.

Someone needs to tell that idiot in the wheel chair that life is to short to spend it in a wheelchair FAKING a injury!
