Well, we've decided not to breed Visa to Rogue -- instead, we're going to breed her to a tervuren!
This is the male we would like to breed her to...

Isn't he beautiful? They should have some nice pups. :)

Gorgeous!! :D
I've been wondering - how come you can breed different Belgians together? I thought they were seperate breeds entirely.

Congrats!
Annnd, I'm not totally sure, but I thought breeding a Terv to a Groendael is like breeding a rough collie to a smooth collie? Just, puppies of different coat types/coloring are produced.

The Belgians are only different breeds in AKC -- in every other registry, they are varieties. :) So it all just depends on genetics as to what you will get. In this litter, we will get only groenendaels, but some of the puppies will carry tervuren. You can tell if they carry tervuren because they will have lighter areas on their bodies. I would love one of these, but I'm not going to pick a puppy based on what it will produce, but rather it's temperment. These pups should have nice temperments though -- this particular male is VERY nice. He has a great head too. Visa's body is absolutely perfect but her head could be better -- so hopefully this pairing will produce pups with nice heads. Being a terv, he's low-drive, so this is also good, because Visa has more drive in one toe than most dogs have in their whole body. Breeding two high drive dogs is dangerous lol. As it is we are going to have a couple of high drive pups in this litter that will be hard to place.
I'm considering breeding her to a malinois eventually too, but I'll probably end her breeding career with another groenendael and breed her son to a malinois intead. This will produce black malinois. Ashley (binka_nugget) wants one lol (she's already getting a pup from THIS litter! :p ).
I'm so happy Ashley is getting one of these puppies, I know she will be an awesome home. I'm so excited that we will have brother and sister. :D
Nice choice. He is beautiful and has a fabulous coat.

That would be cool! :D When the day comes, let me know, I'd love for you to have one.
Yup, Ashley is getting one, and Visa's breeder is keeping one as well, so I'll have tons of pictures of that one too. :D Ashley and I usually only see eachother once a year, so it will be so cool to see the differences between our dogs from a distance and then be able to meet up and see close-up how different they are. I know this puppy is going to the best home ever, Ashley is into all kinds of dog sports -- I know she wants to do obedience, agility, and conformation, and I think she is interested in herding and schutzhund too. I hope we will get to compete together at some of the same shows and trials. If both dogs prevail over the rest, I will be so proud to have produced such wonderful dogs (even if her dog beats mine ;) :p).

I would die for a black Malinois, or even a fawn Malinois from you. I just hate to ship puppies. Maybe I'll have to take a trip to Canada in a few years? heh, seriously. You would have a performance home with me! ;)
Also, the sire is goooorgeous. I love his coloring, it's just amazing. He probably has the nicest color/head I've seen in a Terv!

LOL, and after taking over PT with my dogs, soon I will take over the world! I would love for you to have one of my pups too. :D
Here are a couple pics of black malinois...not showable, but they can produce groens, tervs, and mals in one litter when bred to a groen that carries terv.

Well, turns out the breeding may not work out after all. Ghosty is 11 years old and we don't want to do an AI, so I am going to look around and see if there is something else we might like. Lots of breeders in BC, unfortunatly most of them are no good but we'll meet the stud and talk to other breeds and look at the dog's lines. I'll reply again when I find something that might be promising. :)

Ryder (pictured above) isn't for stud service due to health problems.
This is another male I like, and have enquired about, but Visa's breeder doesn't like his head. I don't like the head of the dog she picked out lol.

Hey, sorry about how you're getting drilled over at Chazhound. I thought a lot of those comments were really harsh! I think you're being really responsible about this, so don't listen to those ignorant people ;) :)
I really hope you can find a good dog though. It must be really hard to find a good stud dog since there are so many things to consider!

Thanks, I thought they were out of line since they don't know the situation...If it were up to me, I know of quite a few dogs I would breed Visa to, but the final decision is her breeder's, not mine. I felt like they were accusing me of being a BYB, and when I get breeding rights over Visa, I will have nothing but the best of the breed in mind, as I do now. Alot of the things I will do will differ from what her breeder would do, but I think they are good things. Bah to Chazhound lol. I'm all miffed at them. :p

Well after searching for awhile I found the thread on Chazhound. Honestly, no wonder you got flamed it sounded like you were a BYB asking for a dog over the internet  I know that isn't the case but it was the way you worded it, it sounded very, very rushed and impulsive.
Anyways, good luck with the search. Keep us updated :)

I just finished talking with Gunner(above)'s breeder, and unfortunatly their temperments just aren't a match. He is high drive, and so is Visa. Bad idea if you want dogs that are actually manageable lol. Visa's breeder is getting tired of looking, we may just end up breeding her to the male we were going to in the first place. I would rather have a dog that is an improvement on Visa's head, but he has an awesome temperment so I shouldn't complain. Either way, the pups will have better heads than Visa. Rogue is a very solid dog -- the friendliest, happiest Belgian around. Loves everyone. He's a very nice boy. Their website is down so I don't have any pictures of him. His name is Can/Am/Int CH Reverie's Rogue D'Allure CD CGC HIC.

you wrote on chazehouds that you found a possable stud up here? who? curious as I know lots of sask. Belgiens lol Happy and Blairs breeder has them and used to breed them, they have had 3 Tervs, Spirt and Vici were greys and Keiry is a fawn. and they have/had several groens- Quest, Clipper, Breaker, and Solo, of all their belgens Solo is my faverate as far as looks go, but Clipper was great, she ran flyball till the day she died at 13 years old, she was so calm and sweet, very pretty.

Yep, I'm not sure why Marla doesn't want to go with an AI -- she says she doesn't like to do them for first breedings, but I do know that in general she doesn't like them at all. She doesn't believe in breeding a dog that can't breed "on it's own" so she likes to know that the dog CAN breed on it's own rather than AIing.
We're pretty sure that we're going to breed her to Rogue now, but the site is down so no pics for you to see. :( I'm still searching though, not just tervs but groens too, just incase I find something that would really match V well.
Cali, the male is Gunner from Spiritus Reg'd, and I love him so much that Marla said she'd do the breeding (even though she wanted to stay away from breeding two high drive dogs), but the breeder is already studding Gunner out several times this year and isn't comfortable doing another breeding.

lol that kennel name sounded familer so I looked into it, Keiry is from dreamfeilds who sold her to Spiritus who rehomed her to Weskys, she was supposed to be a showdog but was not interested so she was given to Weskys to be a preformance dog.

I'm not a fan of Rogue's head either, but it's not absolutely awful and if he's got a temperament that will compliment Visa really well, I'm sure the pups will turn out great. It's too bad that Gunner is too high drive for Visa, he's a beautiful dog. I love the Spiritus Belgians..
I was going to ask this once before and then forgot, do you know how many more litters Visa will be having? I'd imagine not many and she's probably be retired by the time I'm ready for a Belgian, but I thought I'd ask as I'm not sure how old she is now.

Ooh! Look at this boy.
http://www.geocities.com/blackfyretervuren/CajunBOBJan2000.JPG
He sounds just PERFECT. He's a service dog, so he must have a great temperment, and that is what we are looking for! That is the most important thing, is to breed Visa to a dog with a stable and solid temperment. He's in Washington, so not far, and apparently he is quite an outstanding producer. OFA good, elbows and eyes clear, thyroid normal and free of vWD. Four titles, and he's in the top 20 AKC tervs. I can't believe I found a service dog, that would be the best kind of dog to match up with Visa, I'm emailing the breeder now to ask more about him.

I'm thinking just one or two more. She is three years now, so that gives you time. ;) I'm thinking I may breed her in 2-3 years. If I can make it in two years, I will breed her the year after as well, if I can make it three years, that will probably be her last litter. I'd like to go with Gunner that time, I think, unless this litter works out really well and I decide to do a repeat. I wouldn't mind a high drive litter though, so Gunner might be a good match.
Here, I attached the pic, hope it works! :)

Alright, looks like we may finally have things figured out!
Marla doesn't like that male, but is willing to do that breeding if this other one falls through --- she is friends with a breeder on the island who co-owns this (http://paisano.homestead.com/Tommy.html) boy. So it looks like this may be our match. :) She just has to talk to the breeder and see if the temperments will match up. If they don't, then the male I picked (above) might work out. I emailed the breeder and he sounds like a very nice dog, especially for Visa. Every breeding he's done has been to bring up type and bring down drive, which is what we'd like. I've decided that I will probably only breed her to lower drive dogs in the future as well. A low drive Belgian is still high drive for most breeds, and either way there will still be a couple of high drive pups in the litter for those that want one.

Marla remembers a breeding that took place between Tommy and a female that she really liked, so she's going to ask the breeder if there is a puppy from that litter that is at stud around here.
I just finished talking to Cajun's breeder though, and she told me that you can register a tervXgroen pup with CKC, but if one of the parents in AKC registered, you can't register it with AKC. :( So now I want to talk to Marla about reconsidering breeding her to a terv, atleast an AKC one. I want to compete with my pup in the states.
