This past weekend was a vacation for me. I took my granddaughter to a historical re-enactment of the march of General Sherman through Columbia, SC. The actors really get involved, even sleeping in tents and cooking over open fires all weekend.
The weather was fantastic for us, but the men's costumes were made of heavy wool. A couple of the younger guys passed out from the heat.
Friday we attended outdoor "classes" on how they cared for the wounded, made horseshoes and wove cloth. Schools sent their classes for a history lesson and we got in as home schoolers.
Saturday they had a battle between the North & South, using the old guns and cannons. That night they "Burned Columbia" as Sherman did in 1865. The burning was part of a movie they were filming called 'Fire Fields' (I think). A few pictures..........
