While viewing another forum someone designed this website for her breeder. I think it funny because he specializes in multi poos, poodle crosses and poodles, but they also say stop puppy mills, choose a reputable breeder. She wants to know what we think of the website. Everybody else on the forum doesn’t say anything about designer breeds but feel the same way I do. I know everyone here are very open and say what they feel, so what should I really tell her.

ETA: ANYBODY WANT TO SEND THEM A COMMENT ABOUT PUPPIES?

As far as websites go, it's great. And, he seems like a great person. But, if he's genuinely asking you for your opinion, give it to him. I mean, the idea of choosing a reputable breeder and then turning around and breeding "crosses" is contradictory. That isn't reputable breeding at all. I would try to be as tactful as possible. Ask him his thoughts on it. It might end up being a very englightening conversation. You never know til you try.

Everything about that website is horrible. :o

To begin, this person is obviously a backyard breeder. It's incredibly ironic to see that "Stop puppy mills" button on such a site.

The website is incredibly cluttered & unorganized - not one a reputable breeder would have.

Someone who purchesed the puppy from the breeder made that website, and was asking how the website looked. I really just want to comment him about what a real responsible breeder is, but I can't do it because he would have to send the email back to my mom's box.

What CANT you criticize about that website! LOLz... but seriously, heck naw.

First, mention the incredible irony of "stop puppy mills and BYB's" and choose "reputable breeders". Wait, are they trying to drive people away from their puppies by saying that, or are they actually delusional enough to believe they are reputable?

Second, NO WAY should they list prices of puppies. Red flag. They also should not be falsely advertising their mixed breeds as "registerable". They can only be registered with illegitimate mixed breed registries. There is NO point in registering a mixed dog!

Third, the site is extremely cluttered. Too many cheesey graphics, I'm sorry but I'm trying to be honest... it is seriously cluttered. It should be neat and organized, with an emphasis on exactly how they started in breeding, WHY they are breeding, and exactly how they care for their breeding stock and puppies. Do they health test breeding dogs? Do they show breeding dogs? Are all puppies given innoculations and when are they sold? How are they socialized? Are they kept in cages and pens for the duration of their lives? They need proof to back these things up. Do they ship? If so, how do they screen homes?

Fourth, and MOST importantly, what needs to be completely haulted is the breeding of "designer" mutts. That's the biggest fault of this website/business/person, completely! WTH do they think a reputable breeder is? Great, if they are taking care of the dogs (although a reputable breeder, in many opinions, do not cage their dogs and puppies!) but do they show their breeding stock and prove their merit as breeding dogs? NOOO. That is one of the first rules of reputable breeding - prove your dogs! Health tests? I don't see mention of that. They need to remove the idea that they are a reputable breeder, because it is a bald-faced lie and if he really cared about having a good name, he would not be lying to his customers in that manner.

Please feel free to cross-post my opinion! =)

I agree.

The first thing that I noticed, before the page was even finished loading, was the name of the website.. Aloha Puppies. Am I the only one who thinks that doesn't quite sound like the name of an experienced, reputable breeder? I could be wrong, but for some reason, it sent up a red flag right away for me.

I agree with that, Devon. That's because a real breeder would have a specific name... such as "Pawcific Corgi's" or "Shanlae Kennel". This "breeder" is obviously selling puppies, and that is their only focus, selling puppies and making money! Their breeding dogs are of no importance, only the puppies they spew out :/

Ok, since you know I share the same opinions as you all about BYB and irresponsible breeding, I will refrain from commenting on that aspect of the site, since you all have already done so and very eloquently :)

I will comment solely on the design aspect of the site from an outsider's point of view.

=======================

The animated gifs and corny animations and javascripts have GOT to go. Not only do they look tacky, they are unnecessary and look unprofessional. They are trying to present their "product", and yet I hardly see any "products", instead I see bad graphics and unnecessary javascripts. I don't need to know what the time or date is on your website, I have a computer clock to tell me that.

As I continue to scroll down the page, the only word that comes into mind is: CLUTTERED and DISORGANIZED. It is VERY messy, has random graphics thrown randomly across the page, and just looks VERY messy!

I don't need to know what the current moon phase or what the weather is like in your area. I have the weather channel for that!

I nearly missed their contact information because it is mixed in with other random crap that I passed right over it!

Clicking on "About Me", the layout cleans up almost instantly. The annoying random graphics are gone, and the page focuses on more what the site is really about -- content.

========================

Well I know what board you're referring to, I just went to it and saw the post. Really though it clicked because I saw Elvis Lee's picture on the main page of hte site and thought "hey, he looks familiar.." went to the board, and saw the thread. I WILL leave my opinion in the thread though, but will try to be as nice as possible about it. But to some people they take offense to even constructive criticism, so it just depends on the receiving end on how she wants to receive the information.

OK I take that back, I can't -- a mod closed the thread and edited the link out. Maybe I will PM her my opinion, or just let it die as the thread was closed?

I do commend jw on her comment on why the thread was closed, though!!

Please correct me if i'm wrong, as I don't know much about showing. Aren't white boxers a major fault in the AKC, and many are euthanized because of that. Why is he breeding white boxers?

I agree with everyone else here. When I first saw the site the first thing that came to mind was "hodgepodge". The site is a mess. I of corse also agree with everyone else, he is a BYB, certainly not a responsible one.

Yes, as far as I know white is not a color the AKC recognizes (or at least it's not prefered) in boxers. If a responsible breeder has a white boxer they would sell it as a pet, not euthanized it. A responsible breeder wouldn't euthanize one of their dogs because of color, if they did they wouldn't be a responsible breeder.

Ug, even if I didn't say anything about what the website is about, which is horrible itself, that website is awful. I got a headache on the first page. So disorganized, too much jumbled here and there, stuff overlapping - ack, I couldn't go any further, I just closed the site.

I actually really liked the webpage itself. I think its organized enough. I don't like that it takes forever to load.
As for the breeder, do we really need to see some glamour shot of him on the front. All smiling and happy for the public so he can gain appeal. He's more of a puppy mill than a byb. Cripes I expected to find poodles and poodle crosses on the puppy page and instead I find boxers and kerry blue terriers and other breeds. Would he make up his mind on which breeds to mass produce?

Well I agree with everyone else in the fact that the website is cluttered. It has unnecessary(sp?) images. Like what moon phase it is. I don't think we need or want to know that when looking at a puppy page :rolleyes:
Second, I couldn't find anything about health testings or the shows that his dog(s) have competed in. It says that he was a judge for horses and professional breeder for horses. I didn't find any information about him breeding dogs or his background in breeding dogs.
Two particular images got my attention right away 'Don't delay, Neuter or Spay' and 'Stop puppy Mills! Choose a reputable breeder' I guess he just put that up to show inexperienced people that he is a reputable breeder and that he opposes puppy mills etc. I guess he thinks people who visit his sight are dumb and actually think his dogs come from reputable breedings.
Also, he is selling/breeding 8 different breeds. I thought a reputable breeder specializes(sp?) in one or two specific breeds,not eight.

Correct me if I'm wrong, or if I missed something that proves me wrong in my information.
