How I pray that this precious girl is able to find a forever home very soon.

Why oh why do animals have to suffer so much in this world. :(

I wish I were nearer and could help but I can not. So please, instead of killing this poor dear find a rescue group willing to help. If she is loving, she deserves a chance. She deserves more than to raise a family and be killed. I know all too well how difficult it is to place adults into new homes, but it IS possible. Please try.

I am very sad as I know that she would fit in here at The Found Cat Hotel like a hand in glove.
I hope taht she can find a No Kill Shelter where she will have a chance at a new Home.

I have to echo Jen here. Please, please, please don't put her to sleep. Give her a chance to find a loving furrever home. Call every rescue organization you can. It doesn't mean that she will be stuck in a cage for the rest of her life. Alot of rescues will have free roaming rooms for their kitties. First you say she is wild, then you say she is loving. If that's the case, she's probably scared and deep inside there is a lap cat just waiting to emerge. I'm begging you....you've done a wonderful job so far so please don't give up and send her to the Bridge. She doesn't deserve that. What else can I say to change your mind??

moosmom
05-06-2006, 09:18 PM
Zippy,

If you can make arrangements to get her to CT, I'll take her. DO NOT put her to sleep. She certainly doesn't deserve that just because there are too many animals.

So if she means that much to you, start working on a transport. She's more than welcome at my house and I think she'll fit in nicely.

Let me know.

No she hasn't desided but most likely no Pumpkin hates cages and meows and gets unset and my mom and I would trust the airline. My mom and I are going to try calling this rescue Kitty City in our area and see if they can take PumkPumk and there is another rescue called Cat call we are going to call

What happened to your kitty, i sure hope there is a happy ending, honestly most cats don't like cages or anything, and putting up with a tiny bit of discomfort would not hurt her, as in the end she will have a happy home, Donna's offer is so generous and she would be the purrfect person for your Pumpkin to go to, I sure would not turn down her offer in a hurry if I were you,she is a wonderful person with a heart of gold and an awesome furrmother, now putting her to sleep that would be a real tragedy. Good luck, keep us posted PLEASE.

Another option - we were moving my sister's cats a number of years ago, and the vet gave us a mild tranquilizer for them. We gave it to them the morning of the move. Being meezers, the one in particular continued to yell fo almost an hour...lol

But it can work, just a mild tranny from the Vet, and the trip will be much less stressful for her.

my mom will not put her on an airplane.I thank you for your offer but i mom said no.

moosmom
05-09-2006, 11:24 AM
A transport doesn't necessarily mean putting her on a plane. There are people who drive certain legs of the way until the final destination is reached. Like I said, I'd be MORE than happy to bring sweet Pumpkin into my crew. I think she'll do just fine. I'd hate to see poor Pumpkin die. Please see if your Mom will reconsider.

It's very distressing to read this thread and see the offer of a good home rejected because of details that can be ironed out. My local shelter transports FIV+ cats in from Florida and other states frequently and relies, as Donna suggested, on people taking the cat for legs of the journey. The cat can be either taken by car or in the cabin of a plane. I don't think anyone is thinking of shipping the cat via cargo. That said, I brought my cat over from England to California some years ago, and he had to travel cargo. He was given a mild sedative (Ace, very safe and effective) and it worked out fine. If people who dedicate their lives to cat care are willing to transport an FIV+ cat, who needs to be kept free of stress, then I can't understand not transporting a young and healthy cat that will otherwise die a needless death.

05-09-2006, 03:51 PM
I hope you are NOT saying your mother will put the cat to sleep rather than have it travel, please tell me that is not the case, and you are looking at other alternatives, I have been on PT over three years and Donna is one of the nicest, generous, giving people on this earth, you could not wish for a better home for her than that, IMO you would be plain dumb not to take her up on her offer unless you feel you have a better offer,(but a no kill cat shelter would not be a better offer, if you knew Donna as we do on PT you would understand that) please talk to you mother, beg her if need be, do what you have to , traveling for cats is not such a big deal that she is making out, there are options, i understand the plane thing, but gosh people here are prepared to go out of their way to take your furbaby and give her a wonderful new beginning, for goodness sake reconsider.

Honestly if you put this kitty to sleep i would be outraged, as many others on here would be too, please re-assure us this is not the case, thanks.

Lizzie
05-09-2006, 04:20 PM
I wouldn't even use the euphemism "put to sleep" in these circumstances. To take a young and healthy cat in to a shelter where she will receive a lethal injection, when there are alternatives being offered, is to my mind killing the cat.

Is your mom upset with people on PT offering help and advice?

Zippy
05-09-2006, 04:41 PM
Mom is not mad are you kidding she thanks you all for the help.I know that I can't find a better owner for my girl than somebody on PT.
We are in Tampa Bay do you know what airline would help? How would you go about doing this?My mom is not outgoing and I don't think if i called an airline they would give me any info.

Zippy

WE ARE NOT GOING TO PUT HER TO SLEEP!My mom and I love Pumpkin!

carole
05-09-2006, 06:59 PM
Oh thank you so much for re-assuring us,sorry if i got my wires crossed,I can tell you both love her as otherwise why would you bother coming here, where there's a will there's a way the old saying goes, PM Donna and try and work something out, honestly you will not find a better person than her to take your sweet furbaby,I cannot speak highly enough of her, she is a guardian angel to so many kitties and can be the answer to your problems.

That way you can also keep in touch knowing how Pumpkin is doing etc, now would that not be great, I wish you the best, and yes you can ring the airline and find out all the details,I don't see why not, I gather you are a teenager?

Good luck and please keep us updated.

GOOD NEWS!!!!

I just got off the phone with Mugsy. She is willing to set up a transport to get Pumpkin to me. HOWEVER, your mother will also need to drive some of the way as well. It's the LEAST she can do in order to get Pumpkin a furrrever home. I am also going to drive part of the way. I will be providing a large crate large enough for a litterbox and water to fit.

What I need from you are all of Pumpkin's vet records, assurance that she is up to date on all her shots, is tested for Feline Leukemia and Aids. I also will need to know exactly where you are located in Tampa Bay so we can start making phone calls and setting the transport up. Any of Pumpkin's toys, beds, anything that will make her feel comfortable during the transition will also be a big help. I also will need to know what kind of food she likes.

There's alot of work involved in a transport. So if you are serious about having Pumpkin become a part of my furfamily, you need to do some leg work yourself. If you're NOT serious, and your mother can't be bothered, and has Pumpkin killed anyway, as Carole said, ALOT of people here will be outraged. Especially after there were so many offers to help you out.

Let me know what you decide. I told Mugsy I'd call her by the end of the week. I know you'll do right by Pumpkin. I also know that she'll be very happy here with my crew, and I'm looking forward to getting to know her.

WOW you guys are just awesome, the power of PT works yet again, Don't worry Donna there is no way that pumpkin will be PTS , Zippy assured us they love her to bits, and I am certain
now they know so much is being done to help them , they will indeed be eager to do their bit,it is not every day that one is lucky enough to beable to place your kitty in such good hands, they are exceptionally fortunate and blessed, so i know they will do the right thing by her. :)

Thank you for the reassurance, Zippy, that does ease my mind. I hope you are ready to put in your part of the work to get Pumpkin to Donna. Helping to organize something like this will be a good experience for you.

Now I'm just going to fret about Snowball.

Zippy,

The nearest airport is Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks. However, I've found an air service that has airport to airport service. I'm trying to find out the cost and am awaiting a response. I'll let you know what I find out as soon as I hear from them.

Here are their requirements:

PROPER SIZE KENNEL
ANIMALS MUST HAVE ROOM TO STAND UP AND TURN AROUND. UNDERSIZED KENNELS WILL NOT BE SHIPPED BY PET AIR. WHEN IN DOUBT USE LARGER KENNEL

FOOD AND WATER CUPS
ALL KENNELS MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE FOOD AND ONE WATER CUP DUAL CUPS ARE ACCEPTABLE CUPS MUST BE SECURELY FASTENED TO KENNELS. SNAP ON CUPS HAVE A TENDENCY TO COME OFF AND MAY CAUSE SHIPMENTS TO BE TURNED DOWN BY AIRLINES

ADDRESS LABEL
ALL KENNELS MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH SHIPPER'S NAME, ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER. ALSO CONSIGNEE'S NAME, ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER.

LIVE ANIMAL LABELS
ALL KENNELS REQUIRE A LIVE ANIMAL LABEL ON TOP OF KENNEL. AND A LIVE ANIMAL LABEL WITH ARROWS POINTING UP ON THE BACK OR SIDE OF KENNEL.

LAST TIME FEED AND WATERED
ALL KENNELS MUST BE MARKED WITH THE LAST TIME AND
DATE THE ANIMALS WERE FED AND WATERED.

Okay, here's the scoop.

There's a company called PetAir that ships all sorts of animals all over the world. The cost is $150, which is pretty inexpensive considering what the commercial airlines charge, and would be alot more in gas considering the gas prices. Your mom will have to fill out a shipping account form which is located on their website which is www.flypets.com and will have to make the reservation for Pumpkin. Their phone number is 816-471-3852. If you get a recording, keep trying as they are busy. I kept trying till I got a live person.

The cost does NOT include a carrier. The carrier needs to be hard plastic that gives her at least 2" above her head so she has room to stand up and turn around. They will not ship her if the temp is over 85 degrees or undder 45 degrees. I've listed their requirements in the last post. They require 3 business days after the shipping account form your Mom completes in order to make the reservation.

I've basically done what I can on my end, Zippy. Let me know what you decide.

Nikki,

I just got an email from Pet Air. Here's what they said.

$150 covers all airline expenses and Pet Air charges except for the additional fees and expenses listed below. Additional fees and expense: Due to current high fuel cost there may be a fuel surcharge on each order. Fuel surcharges will be determined once a reservation is made. Insuring your pet shipment against loss or theft is available for an additional fee. The average cost of insurance is only $1.00 per $100 in valuation, we think this is a great value and highly recommend it. Pet Air provides the shipper with a shipping packet that contains preprinted air way bills, flight plans, and shipping instructions. Shipping packets are send via Fed Ex. The Fed Ex fee of approx. $16 will be added to the above price. If receiver is paying for the shipment there is a minimum additional $20 fee.

Let me know what you and your Mom decide. ;)

I just got off the phone with Nikki's (Zippy) mom. VERY nice lady. I gave her the number of the airline that will transport Pumpkin. Hopefully this will come together very nicely. She's going to do her part to get the ball rolling. We spoke about what Pumpkin eats, her litter, etc.

I also explained to her that Pumpkin will have to be separated from my cats until she becomes acclamated. If for some odd reason it doesn't work out, I have a friend that will post her on her rescue website. But I am POSITIVE that it will work out.

I'm looking forward to seeing Pumpkin and hope that the transition will be successful. I'll keep you all posted on the whole scenario. :D :D

WAIT WAIT WAIT!!

Donna, I live minutes from Zippy. I am driving to Ohio/Michigan on the 17th.
I can ask my father when he gets home if this kitty can come along.
We can get her as far as OH/MI if you can get someone else to pick her up.

If Zippy can bring this cat to me, more than likely my father's answer would be yes.

Please let me know ASAP. As I said, we're leaving on the 17th - I work the 15th & 16th. I would need the cat brought to me either Saturday, Sunday, or sometime after 3:00 on Monday & Tuesday.

Thank you so much!! That is such a generous offer. I only wished for this one particular moment that I still lived in Michigan. Unfortunately, I'm 663 miles away in Connecticut.

Kfamr

Yes but you all were trying to plan a transport? Can't someone(s) drive from Ohio/Connecticut/whatever? I would get the cat pretty far up there. There are many PT'ers and I'm sure cat rescuers between Ohio and New York.

It would be silly to stress the cat over a plane ride and waste the money on a carrier, airefare, etc.

Oh well, just my opinion, guess it's not needed here.

Good luck ladies.

moosmom

Kayann,

Please don't take offense. We're just trying to figure out the best and fastest way to get Pumpkin to me. Setting up a transport takes alot of time and energy not to mention gas which is over $3 a gallon now.

Petair specializes in transporting pets all over the country, so it's not like a commercial airline that costs and arm and a leg and the animals are in a cargo compartment. It's actually cheaper than driving.

I did have a thought though. If you guys are going to Ohio for the bash and Paul and Karen are going to be there, maybe THEY could bring her back to Mass with them and I could drive up there to get her. Just a thought.

Again, don't take offense. We're trying to do whatever we can to get Pumpkin here the quickest way possible.

Kfamr
05-13-2006, 09:28 AM
Whatever you say.

As I said, as long as someone can drive the rest of the way from OH to CT, or wherever. The only thing is, we are leaving 11 days before the meeting and camping. I don't think the cat would be happy in a carrier that long.

And remember the Cajun boys that were in Louisiana and were flown to Massachuttes where Carla and Mike (Catfamily) adopted them. I also shipped two more via a transporter going north for far less than flying.

This is another PT miracle happening and I can't wait until she is safely in her new forever home. This is just so thrilling, I pray for it to work for everyone without a hitch!
