Pacer is having a great day today. Pacer hasn't been allowed in the big yard since October 2005. He is only in there while he goes to and from his pen. Three times between May and October the other dogs beat Pacer up so badly that he required emergency vet care. We had given up on him being able to be part of the main pack. He's fine with the other dogs in harness, in the house, in small groups. He just got picked on all the time in the big yard and he won't fight back. He just doesn't have it in him to defend himself.
For the past few weeks, he's wanted out at 3am. At first I leashed him and went out with him. Then I just let him out and I stood on the deck and supervised. For about a week, I've just been letting him out and calling him back in a few minutes.
Today Pacer has been in the big yard all day! Not one snarl, no signs of aggression from anyone! It's even fresh bone day and no one tried to steal Pacer's bone!

Pacer sometimes makes things worse for himself by getting agitated and snarly. Today he's calm and relaxed. He's been running around with his tail high and his hackles down!
We are having a party tonight for Stuart's birthday so someone's been outside all day doing yard clean-up. Pacer has been closely supervised. I wont' be leaving him in the main pack when we aren't here to watch him, but I am just thrilled that he can be there occasionally again! I think he is too.
