I have another thread about Miss. Thang my cat. I was able to go by my dog's vet and was given some pain medication. They asked me if I wanted it in pill form or liquid. Normally, I get the pill but the cat won't get out from under the bed. She's also "grrring" at me something awful!
The vet's assistant mixed the medicine in a vitamin supplement. Some kind of brown thick stuff. Yuck! I have to use a dropperful every 6-8 hours.
So far NO luck in getting her to take it. I've tried adding it to her food/water combo. (long story-she won't drink water unless food is in it  ) She's not eating or drinking at this point much. I then tried to put some next to her mouth but she moved away and got madder. I attempted putting it on her fur but missed the area where she can reach with her tongue easily. :o It was dark and I mistook it for her paw. I finally did get her to climb out long enough and managed a few drops on her paw. Not much at all.
I think I will stop trying for a bit since all these applications should eventually get into her somehow in the next few hours. I hope. However, does anyone know any other good ways? She keeps going further and further under the bed! If I leave she wants me back but doesn't want the medicine.
Should I ask for the pill form? Would that be better? Thanks!
By the way, everyone is trying to tell me to put the cat to sleep!!! I am sooo upset right now. It's just a broken hip that is going to heal. She's NOT bleeding and is able to get around for the most part. If the vet told me to put her to sleep I would. However, the vets have NOT indicated or even mentioned putting her down. Her diagnoses is even listed as "FAIR"!!! Just because I am in a financial bind doesn't give me the right to end a life!!!

She should be fine; when poor Beauty got here she was in FAR worse shape. Beauty was so crushed that her babies were resorbed into her body, as gross as that sounds. There's certainly NO need to put your baby down at this point.

I'd stay with the liquid. I'd scruff her firmly, tip her head back a little, and put the med into her cheek pouch. I'd be careful to not lean her back on her damaged legs, just tip her head back enough to work.

And, here I go telling you to use the pill form! My Georgie hides under the bed, and I have developed a plan. I go into my room with cat treats, which she can't resist. I shoo out the other cats, and just sit on my bed quietly. Within a minute, she jumps up, and I pill her (do you need help with getting the pill in her mouth?), then, I hold her mouth shut for a minute. She swallows, and I give her some yummy treats. By the time I am done, she is so loving the treats that she doesn't even scamper away.

If you want more support, pm me, and I can give you the step by step....for me, and my cats, it is so important that I not get flustered/upset. I am very calm and slow about everything when it is medicene time.

Good luck.
