AGAGHHH!

I was listening to the radio this morning on my way to work. The Bob and Sheri show had a lady on that was working at a factory and was making about 25K a year. She complained that 25K was too little so she said that to make more money (about 1K a month) she was offering her Yorkie for stud to whoever wanted to breed thier bitch.

She was also offering puppies. This made me so mad.

I know that I have breed dogs (badly bred at that) but it still bothered me.
If I knew 2 years ago really how many dogs die in shelters than I may not have gotten my two where I did but I would have adopted from a shelter.

She gave her email address on the radio:

for anyone interested in her "services". From the chat interview you could tell from a mile away that she is a BYB. Anyone who wants to write her please do. Maybe we can talk some sense in her!

I was going to write the following. Please let me know if it is too harsh:

Dear Yorkie BYB,
I was listening to you on the radio this morning (on the Bob and Sheri show) and was sorry to hear about your low paying factory job. I am, however, surprised and upset about the way you are making extra money now.

It is really a pity that you are breeding dogs to make extra cash. Breeding should not be done to make money but to better a breed. Obviously your scope is not to better the breed.

Do you know, that in my city, and this is a fact, 7 out of 10 dogs in shelters are euthanized because they can't find a home. You may not think it's true but you are contributing to the problem.

Please spay and neuter your nine (9) dogs. It will save lives.

I am sure you can find another job.

Good Carmen but I'm sure I couldn't be so nice to her :( She is one of millions of people in this country that show how ignorant and uncaring they are on a regular basis. How sad. I'll write something too but I have to calm down first :mad:

that's great! also, though, you might want to add more facts about the people making only slightly more than her but who are using their own time, efforts, and money to correct what she is doing. She is leaving a trail of destruction behind her for others to clean up.

That is very well said. How about writing to the radio station as well? Saying how angry and upset you are about them interviewing a BYB? I don't know...just a thought.

Hi. I just wanted to tell you I have been into Yorkies for 30 yrs. I do know about the breed I am very into making the breed better. I am very carefull to breed for temperment and size and color. and all my dogs are in my house they are a part of my family. the making money comes from being a responsable breeder. here is a pic of some of my babys. In there little T shirts. thank You for you veiw!!! and i agree there are many bad Breeders out there.

I am very carefull to breed for temperment and size and color. and all my dogs are in my house they are a part of my family. the making money comes from being a responsable breeder. here is a pic of some of my babys. I don't think it's too harsh, but I wouldn't address it "Dear Yorkie BYB", that right away will anger her. If you set her into defense mode before she even reads your email she will be less inclined to take what you say seriously.

Very, very well said. It isn't too harsh at all. You are telling her the facts as micely as possible. But in the beginning, I would write out Backyard breeder instead of BYB. (most people don't know what byb means) Good luck, and I hope she decides not to!

hmmm...what about genetic testing? does she show her dogs? if she said on the radio she's just now doing this and then she told you she's been doing this for 30 years, she's gotta be lieing to someone. it just pisses me off big time to know that people like this think they are doing nothing wrong. i would definatly reply back and see if she shows her dogs or does any kind of testing. or even if her dogs are registered. i bet if they are registered at all they are CKC registered. i HATE CKC(Contanental Kennel Club)!
