I have a 5 years old Pomeranian dog, name Charlie, who has a really strange habit of dragging the bottom half of his body, while sitting up, across the floor, rug or any piece of furniture he's sitting on. Looks somewhat like he's scratching his bum or wiping it.
Does anyone know why they do this? My main concern is that this may be due to a health issue that I need to address.
Has anybody experienced this in their pet? If so, how did you correct this problem?

Get his anal glands checked. They might need to be drained. It's disgusting so you want to get it done before they burst!
Has he been dewormed lately? Some dogs will do that if that worms too.

My parents and I adopted two dogs within the past two and a half years, one was free from a breeder who didn't feel that she should be bred any more, and the other from a rescue. They were healthy but we still wormed them and got shots. They both still do it, though. If it makes any difference, the girl is a Yorkie and the boy is a Dachshund/Bassett Hound.

My vet drains the girl's anal glands when they go in for a checkup. They still do the butt dragging thing sometimes though to clean their bottoms. Both of them seem to not like the feeling of a semi soiled little butt ;) Don't worry. It's pretty common actually and a little check at the vet should take care of it :)

You might have a dog with worms, it makes them itch so they rub their butts on the carpet.
