Guinea Pig Help

Hi all.

My 2 year old guinea pig recently had to undergo extensive dental treatment to sort her back teeth out. Thankfully she came through the operation fine, despite her very low body weight, and began to show signs of being able to eat without being syringe fed. Unfortunatley she took a turn for the worse and stopped eating altogether so we have had to resort to syringe feeding her. Typically she's now got bored of this and really dislikes it and she's starting to resent me for force feeding her.
Has anyone got any tips on how to get my piggy eating again? :confused:

If she suddenly stopped eating, her teeth might still be hurting her. I suggest talking to your vet, but until than make sure you keep syringe feeding her.

http://www.guinealynx.com a VERY informative site on gp's. Do you give her those chewing sticks to help her from her teeth getting too long??

Hi all

Thanks for your words of wisdom. I took her back to the vet as things got progressively worse and they said her teeth were doing ok and shouldn't be causing her any bother (for the time being). They suggested to keep perservering with the syringe feed which I did and thankfully she has made progress. Within 24 hours she decided that it was better to eat and started to munch on her dry food - as well as a few tempting treats! She is now back to squeaking for food!! :D Unfortunately the vets have said that she will require the operation again, but not for another couple of months. :)
