Always, if they dont, and they see a cat or squirrel... o_o that would be some bad luck.

I answered for Happy, she is almost never leashed, no need I can control her ten times better with just my voice then I can with any leash, Misty is fine walked off leash in some areas, for example I dont leash her on the bike path or back allys, I only leash her on the streets. the other 3 are kept leashed exept when in parks.

If Zoey goes for walks on th e road she always has a leash on, If she is at a show she never has one on or at agility practise.

T.j never has a leash on because no matter what he is right by my side.

Well, I don't have a dog, but when I take my neighbour's dog, Bonnie, for walks, I always keep her on a leash. I would like to let her loose in a park, and she probably wouldn't do anything bad, but I'd be scared of losing her. If she was my dog, then I would, it's just that she's not as used to me as she is to her owners, and if she began to wander off she might not come back to me. I think it's great to see dogs having fun off leash in the park though:)

I always take them for walks with leashes on! Especially since I live in the city, there is NO WAY I'd even think about walking them leashless, waaay too many dangers for me to feel comfortable!

Yes, because it's the law and my dogs are untrustworthy off leash except for Tango. I'd rather not have to pay $250 for not leashing my dog. Tango is SO much better off leash. She listens to my every command and focuses on me and nothing else, on leash is a whole other story. She's perfect 'til she sees/hears another dog and there are a lot of dogs around here...

So she'd listen to you if she was off leash when she sees another dog and wouldn't when she's on leash?

I dont know about Tangp, but Happy is the same way, she is very fear agressive with starnge dogs, when she is on leash she will snarle and lunge and bark, no matter what I say and I cant control her, but off leash I say "leave it" and she behaves as if the dog dont exsist.

That describes Tango perfectly.

Kodie can't be offleash.I've been working with his 20ft lead with come commands but that hound in him makes him so stubborn.Lucy can be offleash, but she's onleash when we go for walks. Here youre alowed to have your dogs offleash on the sidewalks.

Always. Molli cannot be off leash because she'll run away, and Sam will run after any other person or dog he sees and I'm afraid he'll get hit by a car. It's always safer to keep your dogs on a leash.

Thats EXACTLY how Rebel is on a leash. We are working quite a bit to correct it not though.

When we go for walks both Riley and Rebel are on their leashes. They go off of them in parks etc to play ball and frisbee.

Both of my boys are on leashes when they are on walks. I know that Frisk would behaive wonderfully without a leash, but its a rule in town that your dogs must be on a leash at all times when in public.
So leashes for both of them. :D

Nope.. no need for leash and collar.
live out in the middle of no where and our property is fenced in. :)

The shelties are almost never on a leash.... the only time they have leashes on is if I take them into a pet store. I always have trouble finding their collars and leashes because we never use them.

yes, he has to. He will never in his life be trusted off leash. Thank god for dog parks. After 5 years of training, he almost heals with a prong collar.

I saw the exact same thing on a TV program on public television on dog behaviour. Sometimes leashes can be dangerous.

Going for walks down the road my dogs are always on leashes.

I trust Buster 100% and while in our yard, even where it's not fenced he's never on a leash.

Nacey and Charlie I trust about 95%, but our road is busy enough that the 5% of doubt I have is enough to always keep them on a leash while outside of the fenced area of our yard.

Bitsy and Nova are less trustworthy and don't have the best recall, so I wouldn't even consider having them off leash outside of the fenced area.

Yes. I don't trust Astra at all at coming back when called. She is part husky which has some factors that don't mix well with off leash. IE: they are stubborn (well at least she is), and they have a high prey drive. if she sees a cat, she's gonna chase the cat until she gets it. Prince is just to small and fast to be trusted. He could get stuck in something.

I kinda trust Molly. She sometimes goes outside with us without a leash, but she stays in our yard the whole time. I'm not sure about walking around the block without a leash though. She might see something she wants and not listen to us.

We drive to the parks so leashes are not neaded. Penny and Theo dont even have leased taken for them, they dont go far and their recalls are pretty much fault free. I take leases for C, E & T, but rarely have to leash them. The only time they are leashed is when we are at training, walking in the country around livestock etc.

When I had my old dog, I'd only use the leash to cross the street. Once on the other side he was free & would run all around me having a blast. He had a great recall & had no need to chase anything, so there were no worries with him.. If I was walking in our neighborhood he would be off leash & I didn't need a leash to cross the streets, as he was street trained...

Pagan does, because I've not had her long and she is not well trained. Even though we put a leash on Natalie, Sirius, and Hogan when we take them to the park, etc, we rarely actually hold the leash. At home, they go out off-lead unless it is raining, then Natalie has to be on leash to coax her out into the rain. On long walks, they are usually all on leash, because we do encounter other dogs.

That manner of walking is called "heel" or "At the Heel" because the dog
must walk at your heels. Never in front of you.

Since I live in the city, my dogs cannot be off leash at all unless I take
them to a dog park. :)

My Aussie and Newf yes i need a leash, but my Border Collie Maggy no i bring her leash but she stays at my side if i see someone coming i put her on "Just in Case" we have always said about Maggy we could leave for a couple days and she would still be in the same spot when we returned she is so smart when it comes to knowing boundries and no training has gone into this dog. They say though you never will have the same i dont know all my border collies have all been smart...that is why i love the breed.

All three of mine are leashed 100% of the time on walks. Not only is it the law since I don't take them to off-leash areas, but their recall isn't 100% reliable yet so I'm not willing to risk it. I do take them to the park to work on their recall, but they always have a long leash attached to them just in case. Even when their recall improves I'm going to keep them leashed, I just want them to know it well in case there's an emergency.

Snuggles isn't obedient so most of the time she is leashed

I have to keep Giselle on lead if I want her to stay alive. I wouldn't dream of walking her off lead. I do walk Lucky off lead on neighborhood walks, however.

Annabelle is good with out a leash, she follows me and likes to stop and sniff. When I see another dog coming or when I am on the street I'll clip her leash back on. When we are at the park though, she likes to be free. :)

I let Sassy walk around without someone holding the leash, as she follows me and comes when called. She also stops when I say stop or step on the leash. But I will NEVER ever let her off the leash with just a collar on. I feel if something distracted her and she ran I couldn't catch her. I have the leash on just in case so I can grab it anytime. I think its good for a dog to have some independence but not completely off the leash unless in a park or fenced area.

I can walk my cat on a leash, but he "heels" without a leash and usually stays on our property when we walk in the yard.
If your dog doesn't cooperate with the leash tell him about my cat and he should feel bad enough to cooperate!

Always. I will take no chances with my dog. On another BB, the moderator (a vet) once...one time... took his dog out front without a leash and the dog bolted. He was killed by a car right in front of the vet's eyes. I will never forget the story. I would rather be safe than sorry.
