Dog Cataracts

We have a 10 year old Brittany Spaniel who is the sweetest and most loving dog I have ever seen. She loves to hunt pheasants and she's awesome at it too. She has cataracts that are steadily worsening. Her eyes tear constantly and we were told by a specialist from Cornell University that she is an over producer of tears with tear ducts that cannot handle the volume. He also said there is nothing that can be done for either situation. If you know of anything that can be done for either problem PLEASE HELP MY PUPPY!!!!!

Dear Mitch. So sorry to hear of your pup's condition. She sounds so very special! I agree with Albea. There are other fine, large teaching hospitals that might help to give you some answers and hopefully, some treatment. Both Tufts University and Angell Memorial in Boston are two of the finest teaching/animal hospitals in the world.

Closer to you is The Animal Medical Center of New York in NYC. An amazing, world renowned teaching hospital/medical center. On their site you can click on "Pet Owners" at the top of the homepage. On the Pet Owner page click on "Directory." There you can scroll down to ophthamology. (The eye department) Here are their links.

Location
he Animal Medical Center is conveniently located on Manhattan's Upper East Side, at 510 East 62nd Street, between York Avenue and the East River (FDR) Drive. The FDR Drive exit for the hospital is at 63rd Street for southbound traffic and at 61st Street for northbound traffic. A privately run parking lot with reasonable rates is available under the building.

Hours

The Animal Medical Center never closes. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. If you have an AMC blue plastic identification card for your pet, have it available when you call.

Appointments

The appointment desk (212 838-7053) will help you schedule visits from 9 AM to 10 PM, 7 days a week. Weekday appointments are slightly less expensive than weekend appointments. Also, scheduled visits are often less expensive than emergency visits, so please call ahead unless you have an emergency. Specialists are available by appointment during the day, 7 days a week, with different specialists available on different days. Bring your pet's blue plastic identification card with you.
