I hate them too. If there are going to be circuses, then they should only have people in. Constantly transporting large animals in small crates is really cruel. When I was very young, one of my mum's friends took me to a circus. I'll always remember that girl who whipped one of the ponies who was misbehaving, I can hear the crack now:( :( And 'lion tamers', that has to be pure torture for lions and other predatory animals.

I do not like the Circus. Not only because it seems to be a rather sad and cruel life for the animals, but mostlt because I think they are dumb. I AM NOT entertained at all by them. They are a bit anachronistic. They are a throwback to a time before televison, zoos and travel. Imagine being a kid in a remote town or village (any country) and you began to see flyers about town. tacked to trees and in storefront windows that "the Circus" was coming to town. It could have been the most thrilling and exciting thing that you could imagine.

You were going to see things that you had only heard about or maybe read about in books. WHERE ELSE WERE YOU GOING TO SEE AN ELEPHANT. Not to mention exotic and ferocious beasts: lions, tigers, monkeys, camels...
AND "You" had a horse and a dog... but not like the beautiful white Arabian Stallions they had or their dogs that could do such amazing tricks.

And yes, the freaks, the tallest man in the world, a woman with a beard, the strongest man alive... Unfortunately, it had to be a mystical and wonderous event. BUT TODAY, we have all seen these things. We can watch TV and see Nature shows, we can go to the Zoo. And the Freaks, we now understand that these are simply human anomalties.

We have progressed beyond the age of Circuses and it probably time for them to go the way of the Dinosaur!!!

I Hate It! I Say They Abuse The Animals!

Old theater used to be like the circus, minus the animals. Which is what I like. The old school "theater" with acrobats, etc..

There's a circus here that used to be filled with animals. The first time I saw it was when I was 7, and they had three barn fulls of different exotic animals. Now, they have 3 Lippizaners, 5 Shetlands, and 3 Elephants.. they've had so many complaints filed against them, soon they won't have any animals left! :D

I would not object to them if they took good care of their animals, which many, I am afraid, do not.

I was at a circus before but the only animals there were 3 dogs. I found it incredibly boring...I'd never go to another.

Not all circuses are bad. I went to one where they didn't have exotic animals. They had performing horses, donkeys, and dogs.

I am in 100% agreement with Bobs_dad. IMO, seeing a lady with a beard would be creepy. If I wanted to see animal abuse I would watch animal cops. But some people I know only go to circuses that are ok.

I went to Barnimum and Bailey's when I was about 3 or 4 and only remember the wallway and the miniature poodles in tutus. From what I've heard they are not so good but I like a place like Mideaval Times.

Ever since they did an investigation into the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus abuse of their animals, I boycott them.

I've voted n/a... only because I went to one when I was around 2-3 years old... and I don't remember a thing. :o
So in a way, I've never really been to one. :D

I like Cirque Du Soleil. :) It is coming to my town or close to it. The circus used to be something I liked but my mom and dad stopped taking me because they abuse their animals.
