Well about 2 years ago this stray cat started visiting our back porch on a daily basis. We noticed it getting skinnier so decided to feed it. It soon started to gain weight almost to the point of being obese or so we thought. It presented us with a present of 5 kittens. Rather cute and all friendly. They were accepted by the mother cat and all were healthy.
Then all of the sudden we wake up to the most awful of noises coming from the backyard. We rush outside to find all of the cats gone and a pool of blood. Our guess is the local coyotes got to them. The next day while doing some work on the porch I heard the faintest of whining noises. Turns out one of the kittens had wedged itself between two pieces of wood and avoided being picked up by the coyotes. We decided to adopt the kitten and named it Runtabella after the fact that it was the runt of the litter. My mom nursed it by hand for 3 weeks before it would eat any food on it's own.
A sad story with atleast a somewhat happy ending.
