There is some type of dove in my tree in front of the house. We saw her making a nest about a week ago, and now she is settled in it and hasn't moved much all day. You can see her adorable face and little beady eyes from my dining room window. I'll try to get pictures of her. :D

Maybe a mourning dove? Lovely soft colors, dun and grey and rosy subtle colors, with dark eyes?

There are several different kinds of doves. The most common wild doves around here are mourning doves, white winged doves, and ringneck doves.

I have a white winged dove named Flutters. You can see the white that lines the bottom of his wing.

Mourning doves are the most common doves around here. They're a little smaller than white winged doves and they have black spots on their backs.

Ringneck doves are a bigger dove and lighter in color. They also have a black half ring around the back of their necks.

Aw, I love having birds in the garden! At the moment, there's a couple of starlings, bullfinches and blackbirds all nesting in the garden, with binoculars you can see them building - so cute:D ;) .

The doves that are pretty common around me are Collared Doves. I don't know if you have them in the USA, but there's over 20 pairs that come to my family's garden. They look similar to mourning doves, here's one...

You're probably right though if you think it's a mourning dove:rolleyes: :) Can't wait to see pics!

Yep, we have them. We call them ringneck doves though.

I'm not sure how long it takes for them to hatch.

I should have asked how many eggs are in the nest? What do they look like? Dove eggs are white and are almost always laid in pairs.

Edit- I just looked it up and found that they take about 18 days to hatch.

Wow that was quick. My grandmother gets mourning doves in her pine tree and the are very calm, we can walk up to them and look at the nest without scaring the mother.
