 help My male cat, 6 years old, has developed pimples.
Hav you ever heard of that before??????
He worn a collar with a bell and a metal name tag since I got him when he was 10 weeks old, but just in the last a couple of months, I noticed several small bumps on his chin.
Everything else is still okay, he is eating and drinking normally.
I took the collar off a week ago and was hoping that was the cause. I have been cleaning his chin every day and applying antibiotic ointment.
STill no change....got any suggestions????

:) First of all Welcome to Pet Talk & enjoy all the pictures & talks..
Second of all No I have not heard of chin pimples before.. I would suggest before any more meds given Take Your Baby to the Vet to be checked out.. Do the spots look to be infected or anything to come out (like people pimples)? Could be just aging spots.. Maybe some other PT'rs will have some more advise.. Good Luck & keep us posted..

Pepper had feline acne on her chin for a while (see photo below). It's common for kitties with white chins to have it. Our vet had us hold a warm, wet washcloth to her chin for a few minutes. Then, after the pores had opened a little, gently rub the washcloth around to remove the blackheads. We did this once a day. After a couple of weeks, it cleared up and never returned. But, I have heard that getting rid of plastic food bowls can help. We never did that but Pepper eventually cleared up.

Could they be wasp/bee stings? Or possibly insect bites? It could be something that he has an allergic reaction too. But I'm not sure. I think that the vet should check him out just to be sure what they are;)

Chin acne in cats is pretty common. I once had 7 cats down with it at the same time, although it is not contangious. At first we thought it was plastic food dishes and I switched to ceramic. Later the vet and I wondered if it was a new food which contained cheese and the kibbles were very oily. Mine were treated with oral antibiotics because the acne on some cats was severe and took about three weeks to clear up with both oral medication and twice-daily chin scubbing with a special vet soap. If your cat's chin doesn't have open pustules at this time, you may be able to effect a cure using the procedure Kuhio98 suggested.

Mishi is going through this right now. I'm going to try the warm washcloth tip. I have been putting Neosporin in it every day and that does seem to help too.

Yes, I've heard of it. It's called feline acne. My Sunny has a bad case of it right now and all of my cats eat out of stainless steel bowls. I wash them after every meal with hot water and antibacterial soap. Storm also has a mild case. I've been washing their chins with antibacterial soap and applying a hot compress to it. It keeps coming back though.
Pearl had a bad case a few weeks ago and she had 3 whiteheads on her lower lip. I applied a hot compress to it a few times and everything cleared up. Sunny has always had the black spec kind and his comes and goes. I think it might also be stress related because he stresses very easily. He's going to the vet this Saturday for his annual exam so I'm going to ask the vet what he recommends for his acne.
Here's a link about feline acne: feline acne (http://www.valleypetnews.com/felineacne.htm).

AHA! Thanks, KAK! Mishi is exhibiting the "black speck" kind - I'd never seen it before as my Goldie used to get little pink pimples kind. I wasn't sure WHAT he had, but figured it was kitty acne as it responded quickly to the usual treatment. I learn something new almost every day here on PT! :)

I took Sunny to the vet today for his annual exam and asked the vet about his feline acne. He prescribed an ointment called Bactoderm. It's actually a dermatologic ointment for dogs but it can also be used on cats. He said that his cat had feline acne much worse than my Sunny's and that the Bactoderm cleared him up. I have to apply to the affected areas 2 times a day for 5 days. I'll let you know how it works.

Allen had it so bad last winter that he basically had one big open wound on his chin and lost all the fur on his chin. I washed it daily with rubbing alcohol but things made a huge turn-around once I learned its safe to use Stridex pads (those acne cleansing pads made for humans). He cleared up right away once I started using them.
Here my Allen is as it just started to develop - see the black specs?

Here he is last spring as it was finally clearing up -- that looked good compared to what it looked like previously.

At the time, I was certain it would never clear up and that his chin would be sore and pussy forever. It did go away, after persistent cleaning. He hated me for a long time and ran from me when he saw me approaching, but I had to get his chin clean! Now I do periodical chin checks on Allen and only once in a while will I find anything. I swear he knows I check his chin just to make sure it doesn't return bcause he's sooooo sweet and tolerant while I check.
