Bad News (about the chicks)

my family and i went to Nashville,TN on a small weekend vacation. origonaly i was going to stay hme because im VERY picky about how my animals are cared for and i was going to stay home to care for them. 2 days before we left my dad convinced me that grandmaw and grandpa could care for the animals for 3 days while we were gone. i was hesitant, but i agreed. i left a LNG list of details on how everything had to be done....parinoid mummy. :o

all was going well. i called multiple times a day to see how everyone was doing. i woke up this morning to a call from my granmaw. she seemed upset. she asked to take to my mom. after mom was done talking to her she told me to sit down...then she told me the news. grandpaw had taken Gracie out to potty this morning and didn't lock her crate. after he left the house she got out and got the chicks. :( :( :( Gracie is good with the chicks as long as i supervise. her instincs got the best of her.

i'm soooo upset! i knew i should have just stayed home! i just hate knowing that my chicks were dieing while i was out having fun. i feel like such a bad mummy. :( :( :(

Rest in peace Rowdy, SweetPea, Mellow Fellow, and Bucko. i'm really sorry. :(

I'm sorry your chicks died. Chickens really aren't a good pet to have with high prey driven dogs. Accidents like that just happen so easily, even with the best of intentions. Eventually the dogs somehow get to the chickens. Doesn't make you a bad mom.

Try not to blame your grandparents, I'm sure they feel down right horrible about this & don't blame yourself for going on a little holiday, cause this could have happened even with you or another dog. Its a sad thing that happened & no one is really at fault, it was just a terrible accident.

thanks everyone! i still feel bad. i'm upset that my grandparents let this happen, but i'm not mad at them. it could have very well happend while i was there. they even went out and bought me 5 more chicks. so now we have 4 rhode island reds and a barred plymoth rock. all are pullets. i'll post pics of them later.
