Most of you will know i have kinda temporarily adopted my neighbours kitties Duchess and Vicky, long story, well they live in the backyard now and i treat them as my own, we have built a shelter for them as well, so life is much better for them these days.

Now i have a question , since getting to know their purrsonality's i find Duchess to be a very aggressive cat especially towards her daughter Vicky, it is upsetting to me, as she attacks her for no reason and has injured her, bit her ear till it bled and her nose, is this normal behaviour?

She is a bit of a problem for my own cats as well, always attacking them and growling and hissing at them, although it has been kept to a minimum with them, as they normally stay around the back, but have been coming to the side verandah lately and doing this.

So can anyone tell me if this is normal ? i feel really bad for vicky, as she is such a sweet natured kitty, nothing like her mother, Duchess will attack me sometimes too and bite, but Vicky never does, she is like my Lexie in nature. Very sweet.

I Have Read That Past A Certain Age A Mother Cat Will Stop Regarding Her Children As Such, and Will Start Seeing Them As Rivals For Food And Warmth.
You May Have To Seperate Duchess And Vicki At Least Until The Duchess Is Spayed,if She Has Not Been So Already.
We Wish You The Best Of Luck With Those Poor Cats.

If she IS spayed and this behaviour change is fairly recent, she could be unwell or have some injury that is causing her discomfort and making her aggressive.

Check with your vet!

I think her behaviour is not recent as i used to hear them scrapping with each other when they were next door, it is not possible to seperate them, apart from those times they love each other, groom etc and sleep together, they were both spayed end of last year.

These kitties still belong to my neighbour, she just never bothers to come over and see them ever and leaves me to it, and they are more than happy and content here now, they have regular feeding, warmth, love and i make sure they are de-flead and de wormed, none of the above they were getting before, so no wonder they stay with me.

Duchess seems well enough, no signs of illness to my knowledge, i think this is just her, they have been together for about four years now.
