My friend has been researching breeds for about a year now, since her shep mix had to be put down from old age. She has finally decided on a breed that she hopes to show, the Greater Swiss. She has come to me for help to locate a reputable breeder.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any reputable breeders in the north east part of the US?

Sue, you should contact Robin, ChristiansMommy, she is in Delaware and has indicated that she is familiar with some reputable Swissie breeders.

Thanks, for some reason I thought she lived in the mid west. Silly me I should check before I guess. lol

I just replied to your PM :) Please keep me updated on your friend's breeder choice and if she gets a Swissie!!
I know my breeder in North Carolina loves it when people show his dogs,lol...he wanted me to show Harlee, but it wasn't in the cards for me at this point in my life, and I probably dissapointed him when I said no, and finally got her spayed, but he has many show dogs (some have even went to Westminster)...but like i said, all of the breeders registered on that website that I sent you, should be very reputable...it's a good site.
There is a Swissie dog show once a year in Oley, PA (not sure how far that is from your friend), but we have gone for the past 3 years (this year we won't be going, since it is too close to my due date). I believe it is in mid May. If she wants to know more about that, I can get info. The show is at a fire house and is outside and probably has like 50 Swissies and several Berners there...as well as many breeders, I am sure. There is weight pulling, showing, and other things that they do. It is a nice relaxed atmosphere.
I have only owed 2 Swissies in my life (and will most likely own many more), but they have both been great dogs (really different personalities), but nice dogs. But she can't do enough research when searching for that perfect breed for herself :) Swissies have some funny quirks and males can be slow to potty train, but she will learn lots from whatever breeder she decides on. Aside from those traits, they are big loveable goofs, some more intelligent than others ( just like any breed)...but we love them and will have more in our future. Good luck!

I just called the people in charge of putting the show together and they are going to mail me out info on it...but what I know as of now, is that it is the week of May 11th-14th and there would be certain days to go that would be better than others, like "Fun Day" and Weight Pulling and the Show days...so when I get that info, I will pass it on to you...or...
Your friend can actually call: 610-376-1880 (Jim Rau Dog Shows information line) and just say she is inquiring about the Greater Swiss Dog Show in Oley, PA...and they should be able to get her info...
Like I said it is a very relaxed atmosphere with lots of Swissies :) She said the location has changed for this year (but still in Oley, PA).

Robyn, I am very much interested in swissies also. I would love it if you could send me your info on breeders and any other info that you might have about the breed. I would also love to hear how Harlee and Dale's personalities were different. Why do you think it is harder to housetrain a male than a female? Alden still has his heart set on a male akita as he feels about them the way it sounds like you feel about Swissies. Like I said in Anna's calendar thread I keep that Swissie calendar page on my desk for him to look at and he told me he sees it and loves the breed too but he just has his heart set on a male akita. Oh, how I wish I could have tons of different breeds because that is what I really want. A little bit of everything;). I'm still not sure we are read for a third pup but if he finally finds what he is looing for I'm sure I'll have not problem with it...LOL.
Thanks for any links and info you can send me!!
All by best thoughts and prayers for you, Rob, Christian, the furkids and little Jeremy Lee who is on the way! Can't wait for the new baby boy to arrive!
