[Now say that 5 times fast! :p ;) ]
Last weekend we had a couple of big storms pass through our area. We were in a tornado watch for about 7 hours and there was LOTS of thunder. All throughout the storms Snowy was shaking and finding new places to hide. I brought her up to my room when I was going to sleep to keep her company. Before I knew it she had raced into my closet and wedged herself inside an old shoe bin I was using for storage! She hopped in there right on top of all of my stuff. She refused to come out, so I snapped two pictures of her.

Everything she sat on top of was pulled out and placed on the top shelf.

Not exactly the most comfortable spot, is it?
My dad was able to coax her out of there within a few minutes. She kept trying to get back into my closet to go in there, but than decided just to hide under my bed.
Silly puppy....

Ahhh poor baby!! I feel so bad for animals during storms.
I know the feeling all to well. I have to tranquillize Buddy when storms are on their way. He becomes violent and jumps at/on me, he has left me battered and bruised and tries to break windows and door out. :(
It's very sad... :(
And Sierra sleeps through storms!!

Oh gosh, poor Buddy. :(
Snowy isn't normally scared during small storms. She only seems to be scared when they are either cast as severe or we are under a tornado watch. I'm always a little nervous than too, so she might pick that up from me or just 'sense' that the storm is bad.

Poor little Snowy. Fenway's afraid of thunder too. Those pictures are very cute (even though she's afraid).

Hi Snowy, Star here...
Those storm things are pretty huh? Mom laughs when I hide in the bathtub, but I think she should find a safe place and hide out too! I mean, they're so LOUD they've got to be dangerous. Sometimes Mom gives me a treat at the beginning of a storm that makes me sleep through them, I like that. She hasn't done it in awhile thoug, because I only get scared enough to hide, not scared enough to bite anyone anymore. I think you should tell your mom that storms are dangerous and help her find a good hiding place too!

Aww poor Snowy :( Don't worry Prince is also afraid of storms. He often hides in the bathroom wedged in a little corner.

Yup she can very well be picking up on your nervousness and thinking "well if the leader of the pack is worried, there is probably something to be worried about!"
My parents' old sdog used to be TERRIFIED of loud noises, thunderstorms and fireworks included. She would literally wedge herself under my parents' bed -- a 120lb dog wedging herself in a space my 45lb dogs would have trouble getting into. They had to lift the bed to get her out!
My only suggestion is next time just act like it isn't a big deal, or make a game out of it. Every time lightning strikes, get really excited and give her treats. :)

Thanks Jessika, the only problem is when she is really afraid she ignores all food and water. Even people food is ignored.
One summer during one of the bad storms Snowy got under my parent's bed. They have cabinets under ther bed, and one is open in the back of their bed and has he door at the front of their bed. She wedged herself right in the middle of he cabinet on top of a bunch of books. No one knew where she was, and we were worried she some how got out of the house or into trouble. After she was sure the storm was over, she came out for a whole slice of cheddar cheese. She was a little puppy than, so if she tried that now we would have a hard time getting her out!
She also hides behind the toilet, inbetween our two couches, under the table, in the mudroom, and once attempted to get into a cabinet. (My mom wasn't too happy about that last one, she kept a bunch of her cooking things there!)

I've heard that since dogs have such great hearing - one of their many wonderful traits - that it makes the ears REALLY sensitive to sounds like thunder.
Too bad there aren't Doggie Ear Plugs - how would you keep them safe for use anyway?
Poor Snowy! I hope she's all better now.
