Congrats! Chicks are so fun, aren't they?!? And cute, too! I used to have a white silkie rooster, they are beautiful chickens. Right now I've got 50 chicks. (Cochin and Frizzle Bantams) My dad raises pheasants and poultry.

Can't wait for the pictures!

I know what yah mean!! If you ever get ducklings never stick them in with chicks because they will get each other all wet and will die. :( My dad and I learned from experience with putting them together.

dab_20- i saw your other posts in my "chicken questions" topic. i will probably PM you A LOT!LOL i want to raise my chicks right! :D i don't think i'll be getting any ducks. if i have a pond some day i might get some pekin ducks.

yup, they are in my room. i have them in small dog crate lined with newspapers. i don't want to put wood shavings on the bottom of the crate because they might get "pasty butt" 2 of them already do, but i'm trying to take care of that. dab_20, i'll be PMing you about this. :D

when they are about 6-8 weeks and healthy they will be moved to the 7x13 chain link kennel in the back yard. i'm going to put a few feet of chicken wire around the bottom and over the top so no preditors can get them.

It's fine, you can PM me whenever. If I don't know the question I can always ask my dad! The kennel sounds good... is it a cement floor?? If it is, I would suggest putting hay down.

We do use wood shavings... ours haven't gotten 'pasty butt' before. Newspapers sound fine though... sounds like you've got some lucky little chicks.

i have the kennel on cement or i can put it on grass. which would be better for them?

I think grass might... I will ask my dad tonight and get back to you tomorrow or tonight. but make sure your chickens will have plenty of room... do you live in town? if not its a good a good idea to let them roam free during the daytime.

i live in town, but it's not much a of a town if ya know what i mean.haha. i pretty much live in the middle of nowhere. because of the amount of stray dogs here i wouldn't let them roam unless i was there to supervise. too risky.

Oh, I see. Then yeah, only let them out with your supervision.
