Some people very close to my heart and myself will be spending two weeks 'at the shore' this July. We are renting a house, and I wonder if there is anyone close by that we can connect with? Cape May is about 1 hour from Atlantic City, and way far out on the point of New Jersey.

Cape May NJ is a 4 hour drive for us, but we used to love to vacation in nearby Wildwood. I will do the very best that I can to make the trip just get me the dates. Charlie and my "weekend" is Sunday and Monday, so it will probably be one of those days. Of course, if you had an inkling to stop by MY house on your way to or from you coul meet the whole crew. ;)

Oooo.... let me know which day. I work every Saturday but if its a Sunday I would love to "swing by" and meet you!
I am about 1 1/2 hrs. from Cape May and am well acquainted with the Jersey shore :) but actually Ocean City is my hangout. :) Since I am expecting grandson #2 on or around June 24th I am going to be spending a lot of this summer getting to know him and that means lots of trips to Maryland. :)
Hope to see lots of pictures posted from this event though!

Cape May is only 2 1/2 hrs from me. I looove Cape May. The ferry boat from Delaware State Park (where the dogs & I camp a lot) is a hop, skip and a jump away. This is loverly Johanna. What a quaint, quiet (even in summer) town Cape May is. You and Jonah will love it! I'm IN!! :) Thanks for the "heads up" Jen, I may have missed this ;)

Lillycat is a Jersey Gal, and this is her place to go. She has been 4 or 5 times, I think. I have been one other time, and really loved it. Cape May is MY kind of place-slow, slow and slow!
It will be the second and third week of July, beginning that Saturday, the 8th, through the 22, I think. I don't have the calendar in my bed..he he he. BUT, it is the 2 and 3rd week. I would be open to anytime, any day!!!!!
Jen, I will ask the pilot about a special layover in PA. Not holding out much luck, but, you never know!!

We will make it on a Sunday! So, that means either the 9th, or the 16th.....either one better than the other folks? I will wait until the last moment to spring this on Lillycat..he he he. And, Jonah! :p

Either Sunday for me. And as for the PA layover ( ;) ) make it on your way BACK home. After all, if you are leaving the shore on Saturday (22nd) you have the whole rest of the weekend to make it back home again. hee hee.

One day I was in cape may down at the ferry terminal and I saw three abandoned kittens. People were looking at them but noone took them. I was only passing through and didnt live there so I couldnt take them.I often wonder what happened to them and how someone could be so cruel to abandon these kittens but a lot of people were looking at them so maybe someone gave them a good home.
Last year I was also on holidays - this time in ireland - and I saw a black kitten that looked lost but well cared for. He was wondering around a parking lot. Its difficult to know what to do as if I take the kitten it might be owned and if you leave it he could be lost and could get run over. Theres isnt really places to leave abandoned cats in ireland that i know off. I lived 100 miles or more away from there so no use takign the kitten ! I hope the cape may kitties did get a home and maybe you will see them wondering around as adult cats.

I will be down there later this month.
Lbaker, that ferry boat sounds like a good idea since we will be going from DC and Baltimore over to South Jersey.
I will go start another thread about my trip, maybe I can run into a few Pet Talkers in my travels. :)

I sent you a private message thingy but you warned me your box was probably filled. I will try to connect with the email address you gave me but right now I am sick and sore from some oral surgery this morning :( I am leaving tomorrow for a business trip to LA for a week but have some really good suggestions about "what not to miss" during your few days in DC - including MEETING WITH ME, AND MAYBE EMILY-THE-SPOILED!! We both work in DC and live nearby. How old are your children? I love my city and hope you will leave feeling the same  By the way, the ferry boat to South NJ really won't work from Baltimore, but there are alternatives. Not to worry ;)

Laurie, it looks like I will catch up with you next week when you come back from your trip.
I answered your questions in the DC thread that I started.
I found the website for the Ferry Boat and it is pretty expensive and looks like it takes about 1 hr and 20 minutes.
It says you also have to make a reservation at least a day in advance.
We are still deciding which route to take over to southern NJ so if you have any helpful advice on that I would like to hear it.
I hope you are feeling better and that your trip to LA went well. :)

I live about 4 hours and 15 minutes away, but would LOVE to meet new people. Let me know when the event is to take place, and I'll see if I can get the time off at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Hello. I will be in Cape May from July 8th-15th (Saturday to Saturday). It will just be Jonah and I, no Lillycat. :(
I would be interested in a Sunday July 9th gathering, if anyone is interested!!

Can we plan something on Sunday, July 9th? I will have a kitchen, bathroom, everything we could need! I know Sunday works best for JenL, and I am only there one week, so, this is kind of THE day to do it. I would REALLY like to meet some of you that I would never have a chance otherwise to meet. And, so would Jonah, I am sure..if he could talk and tell me. :D

July 9 sounds good to me. I'll probably look for a cheap-o motel in Lewis DE and take the CapeMay-Lewis ferry over on Sunday. Driving to and from DC to the beach on any given summer weekend is a zoo so I'll probably take Monday 10th off work and stay over Sunday night. :D

I see no reason July 9th wouldn't be PURR-fect! :D As stated, I work Saturday and the rest of the world would work Monday (my other day off.......LOL)
The drive is about 4 hours (We are kinda slow pokes) and I haven't driven that far in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time, but could spend a few good hours down there. Realistically I could not arrive in NJ before 11 am and would most likely want to start home by 3 pm But there would be no way to stay overnight so this will have to do.
Maybe Catnapper will come with us instead of in seperate vehicles. (she'd probably get us there in 3 hours :p )

Sounds cool! I'll have to see what the calendar looks like, but maybe I could even convince Ash and the baby to go along for a ride too ;)

Baby would be only about 1 to 2 weeks old. :D :D

We could plan a later'ish lunch, or early dinner to accomodate JenL. And, of course, people can come as early as they like, or stay as late as they like. And, if anyone needs a place to stay, the cottage has two bedrooms, plus a daybed downstairs. Jonah and I will be sharing a room...he he he, so, plenty of space for more people!
Jen, I do understand your time constraints. ;)

Ooo.... looks like we'll be taking our family vacation in Cape May this year, thanks to this meeting! :D You'll get to meet the whole catnapper clan! :p
We might be driving down Saturday night, getting aroom, spending all day Sunday and leaving maybe Monday night or Tuesday. How exciting!!!!
Yes, the baby will only be a few weeks old (maybe a month old?) so we'll have to find things to keep the baby comfortable and protected from the sun --- Johanna, any ideas?

Oh, Catnapper!!!! That is so unbelievably GRAND that you all will be there!!! With such a brand new 'bun', you will want to only use cloth or obstructive devices, and no sunscreen!!! So, I would buy two cheap old tote umbrellas- the pocket sized ones, and let them be the sun shield. Also, most of those baby seats (pumpkin seats) have a half closeable cover thingy.
This is great!!! I cannot wait. :D

We went shopping at Babies R Us today and spied some cool choices for beach cover. all the way from a $4 carrier or pack & play net all the way up to a $20 self-contained shade thinge (see here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00000IUXC/qid=1147653496/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-1595344-3943965?v=glance&s=baby) )
We have to decide just how long we'll spend on the beach -- I myself do NOT like the beach. An hour is typically my limit before I get tired of bugs, sand, and feeling like I'm a baked lobster (I have a strong fear of getting skin cancer like my grandmom battled her whole life. Even if I use screen, I feel like my skin cells are mutating by the second.... yes, I'm a pasty white girl! :p) So, based on how long we will realisitcally spend on the beach befor we decide which baby screening option to take.
Now... to find a reasonably priced hotel for all of us! :D

Just knocking this up a bit to see who else may be there this Sunday. I'm driving down about 4 a.m. Sat. morning (to beat the horrible, horrible traffic across the Bay Bridge to the shore). I'll find a cheap-o hotel/motel along the highway to Lewis DE and be meeting Joh and Jonah on Sunday in Cape May. Anyone else figure it out? We will need to decide where and when to meet. JenL & Charlie? I would love to see you guys again :)
