I would like to introduce Boomer, also sometimes known as Boomerang or Boomer Oomer. Boomer is a rare parrot called a Gold Capped Conure. They are endangered in the wild and hard to find as pets. Gold Capped Conures are very loud and Boomer is no exception. Everyone in the family complains about his loudness especially my father who threatens to get out the pellet gun when Boomer starts screaming. We don't even have a pellet gun! HAHAHA!!! Besides being loud he is quite messy but that just comes with the territory when you own a parrot.
Boomer is quite the little character. He loves playing with toys and nibbling on anything he can reach. He thinks he is helping you when he bites your wrinkles, eyebrows, eyelashes, moles, freckles, lips, and even tattoos. Boomer has his fair share of expensive bird toys but his favorite thing to play with are Dr. Pepper caps!
Boomer believes that everything he sees you eating he should be able to eat too. His favorite food are strawberry Mochis. Boomer likes other cold things too such as popsicles and smoothies. Boomer will try anything he sees you eating. He loves pancakes and waffles. Boomer has his own shot glass with his name on it for drinks. I will fill it to the top so he can reach whatever tasty liquid is inside of it. Usually it's V8 Juice, orange juice, or lemonade. Boomer would prefer it to be Dr. Pepper but that's unhealthy for him. Sometimes I let him have a little taste though. I don't let him eat too much human food as he needs to eat his healthy mixture of bird food which includes pellets (seeds are bad for parrots), nuts, dried fruit and vegetables. Boomer picks out his favorite bits of food first and then goes on to eat the rest later on. His least favorite are lentils. Birds don't have saliva so to make his food soft and easier to eat he will take his food over to his water bowl to dunk it in it. This makes his water dirty so I have to change it multiple times a day sometimes.
Boomer has a nice big cage with a play area on top. He is never locked in his cage so he spends most of his time on the top. Boomer will go inside to eat or drink throughout the day but he always climbs back on top of it. Boomer likes to be on the highest place possible even if it means hanging out on the top of your head. While he hangs out on top of your head he will style your hair for you so you always look your best. When Boomer is hanging out on you he loves to chew on your jewelry. He has broken many necklaces and earrings (including my sister's Diamond earrings).
Boomer knows how to say "Hello!" and "How are you?". When we come home from out running errands he gets very excited and starts talking and screaming up a storm. Most of the time you can't tell what Boomer is saying but he thinks you understand him. Besides talking he loves to whistle. When I open my door to head downstairs he starts whistling up a storm. I always whistle back at him and we kind of have a whistling conversation. I just hope we aren't saying any bad words! LOL!!!
Boomer knows he is a handsome fellow and he wants to make sure you know it too! He is a very photogenic bird and it was hard to narrow down what photos to use for his big day.
