We adopted our precious, handsome, lovable senior Buddy in April, 2021, from the APA (Animal Protective Agency). He was dumped there by someone who said he was "too aggressive." They were wrong! Mature Buddy is the most laid back, charming, patient boy ever with a pure, sweet soul. He never bites. He is calm during photo shoots. When his younger adopted brother, Herbie gets to visit with Buddy, Herbie climbs all over him and goes crazy from happiness! Buddy sits still and watches Herbie running around him, as if he is amused by Herbie's excited antics. He never pushes or bites Herbie. Buddy is even calm during nail trimming!
Buddy's favorite foods are cucumbers, green leaf lettuce, Oxbow food/hay/Vitamin C tablets. He also loves spinach and carrots. (He is not a big fan of green pepper yet but we're working on it.) Buddy doesn't have to think twice about crawling up on his Daddy's palm to get his veggies or treats! Because of his healthy diet, Buddy has steadily gained a total of 10 oz. since we adopted him over 6 months ago. Buddy has only whistled once or twice softly but he is very spoiled so he has no need to remind us that it's veggie time!
Buddy is very photogenic (and a perfect super model). It's very interesting how his coloring is so different on each side of his face - we can't pick his "best side" because they both are! : )
Buddy LOVES lap time! He loves eating veggies and getting brushed! He is just crazy about being brushed and stretches out, yawns and naps. If you stop brushing him, he lifts his head up with big curious eyes. like he is saying, "For Pete's sake, why did you stop brushing me?!" BTW, he has never had an "accident" on the towel during nap time even though he will relax there indefinitely - and his body heat will sure warm you up while he is on your lap! However, you can't go into the kitchen and get Buddy more veggies and leave him alone on the sofa because he gets very scared by himself - you have to take Buddy with you into the kitchen and then he is just fine.
Buddy has his own cage, which is tidied up twice a day. Like clockwork, after his cage is cleaned, he immediately lifts up a toy or his cardboard toilet paper roll and puts it in his house for safekeeping while he sleeps outside the house! And sometimes he walks around his cage with a long string of (clean) toilet paper stuck or wrapped around on a hind foot, which is hilarious!
The talented, legendary singer/songwriter, Buddy Holly, inspired us when we were naming our Buddy. We love Buddy Holly and we love our sweet, darling, endearing Buddy! We always say that our easy-going Buddy is "Everybody's Buddy" because he likes everyone! : )
November is Adopt-a-Senior Pet Month. We have adopted many senior cavies/gps from shelters/Humane Societies through the decades and they have all been a joy, Heaven-sent and the experience has been so rewarding! We hope Buddy's story encourages others to Opt to Adopt a Senior Pet because ALL pets (big OR small) deserve a loving fur-ever home!
