This is Phillip. He is a 48-year-old land turtle, also called a tortoise. I inherited it from my grandpa, as these animals live a very long time. So my pet is even older than me! I am glad my grandpa left him to me. Philip lives in our garden, and likes to be under the trees in summer. In the night he sleeps in his little house in the garden.
In winter he sleeps for five months in a little cage in the basement, as this animal hibernates in winter. This is because, when they live in the wild, there is less food then, so even though we have stores to buy food, his body still tells him to hibernate. I like him because it is easy to take care of and he doesn't make a big mess. And he could live to be 100 years old, so I will have him for a long time.
