When we moved to Hudson Oaks, we discovered many deer. We saw one that had a short tail so we named her Jane. She became very friendly and eventually started eating out of my hand.
As time went by, I could call Jane from amongst the other deer and she would slowly walk towards me. She has a special gait. Then came baby season (late April - May) and she gave birth to a fawn and we call her JD (Jane Doe). We loved her cute little spots and seeing her laying around many places sleeping.
As she grew, I started being friendly towards her and she also started eating out of my hand. Jane and JD eat out of my husband's hand too. We estimate Jane is between five and seven years old, but of course do not know her exact age.
Over the years she had more babies, and one time twins. I kept watching Jane in late April and noticed she was acting strange and one day I saw her give birth to her twins (at a distance of course), it was awesome! They did not become as friendly as Jane, she is a special doe.
I feed corn to all our deer including bucks, which are around only during mating season. We have some big bucks, saw one that had 12-point antlers!
I love Jane, JD, and all our deer and I feed them every day between 4:30 and 5:30. Believe or not they are waiting on me, some are sleeping (aww!) and when they see me coming with my little red bucket, they start gathering around me waiting for me to throw out the corn on the ground. I call myself the "Deer Lady" of Hudson Oaks!
