This is "Pea" (short for "Sweet Pea") our four-year-old (female) cat; and Beau Bear, our 18-month-old masked sable (male) ferret. "Beau" is French for "handsome," and doesn't he have the cutest teddy bear ears? It took Pea about one week to warm up to Beau when I brought him home as a baby. Ever since she found out what a fun playmate he is, they are best buddies.
They only sleep together occasionally. But, every evening, they put on a show for us that keeps us in stitches. They play tag, hide-and-seek, and tackle football all at once. Don't let Beau's size fool you. He can hold his own even when being cradled in a wrestling hold between Pea's paws, and he always comes back for more. When Beau hears me getting out his harness and leash, he is at the door waiting for his nightly expedition. And you can bet Pea wants out, too; just so she can lurk behind the trees and then come careening across the lawn at us, ambush-style.
They both have free roam of the house (in which there are five! litter boxes for Beau and one for Pea). And, when Pea is busy napping, Beau is either curled up in his fleece sleeping bag in my pajama drawer, or carting something plastic or rubber down to his hidey hole in the basement. Uh Oh! Where's the remote?!
