Meet Jack, my 24-year-old Percheron (draft horse). He's a big, handsome boy who is a sweetheart! Now, Jack technically doesn't belong to me, but I care for him. I was introduced to him through a friend. See, I have bipolar disorder and I struggle the most with depression. Horses are therapeutic for me and Jack's owner felt that we would be a good match. Why? Jack was diagnosed with failure to thrive - depression. The vet didn't think he had much longer to live. I've been working with him for 6 months and he's made a complete turnaround! He's gained weight, interacts with the other horses, and is more active.
Some fun things about Jack: he purrs like a kitten when he's happy. He gets grain when I groom him (a little treat) and when his bucket is empty he'll toss it around to let me know. If I don't get him more, he stomps his feet like he's throwing a little tantrum. He'll do almost anything for carrots. He's a big baby and I love him dearly!
