Years ago, in my class in school, we read Gulliver's Travels. When my familey went to L.A., we got two turtles and I named mine Gulliver since I found out when we went to the beach that he likes to walk and 'travel' as I called it so we named him Gulliver. He likes to walk around in the grass in the back yard here at home, though at the end he seems glad to go back in his tank to cool down in the water. It gets hot in Nevada, even for a turtle. He does have a lamp for his tank and a place to climb up and dry off in the tank, but he like being able to walk around better than just sitting on a rock. And maybe to the bugs in the yard, he seems like a giant, just like the Gulliver in the book does to the little people.
Some people think turtles don't have a personality, but Gulliver sure does. He sticks his head way out when I talk to him, so I know he is listening. If he is in his tank when I come in the room, he will splash to let me know he is hungry and wants his food, and now! And the way he walks when exploring the yard, you just know he is curious. He is a great pet.
