Xena is a bearded dragon lizard who is nine years old now. Ashley is an Italian greyhound puppy who is seven months old and belongs to my next door neighbor. They both love to soak up the sun together on my windowsill in lower Manhattan, New York. We live in a small studio apartment with many animals and we all have to get along no matter what our species.
I also have a five-foot-four-inch long iguana named Vegas who observes the two of them from his perch, but doesn't understand why Xena would want to hang around with Ashley. Just like some peolpe don't "get" lizards, Vegas doesn't "get" dogs.
Xena is a very sweet and sensitive creature and constantly surprises people who think lizards couldn't possibly give or receive love. I never thought I could have dogs around, but Ashley is very sweet and nonthreatening to other animals. She loves cats, too, and has a favorite one that she plays with all the time.
Our building is very animal friendly, so my neighbor and I have acquired quite a few pets and they all seem to get along.
