It took me 72 years to realize what great pets mice make. Eddy is one of the reasons. He is cute, smart, energetic, fun to watch and easy to take care of.
Life is not worth living without pets. However, at my age I have to think ahead. Dogs can live fifteen years or more, rabbits ten years, guinea pigs around five years. That makes mice a great choice. Planning ahead, I have several friends who will help my pets when I'm gone, but I don't want to be much of a burden for them.
Eddy lives in a 20-gallon aquarium with a screen lid. This is perfect, plenty of room for all of his things and room to run. Boy, can he run. He gets fresh food and water every day and his paper bedding is changed once a week.
He is a friendly little guy and doesn't seem to be afraid of me or my dog, Angel. I love to watch him run in his wheel and play with his "toys." A bottle cap is a great toy. He carries it around all over.
If you love animals, but don't have much time or room, consider a mouse. I'm just sorry I waited so long.
