Hi! My name is Sugar-Star, and I'm a mixed-breed hen. I am 18 months old now, and I'm also very shy so please don't speak loudly to me. Here is a photo of me with my brother; he's the white chick, I'm the speckled chick, and the pale gold hen is our chicky-mama. She died when we were still little, but we were taken in by a human-mommy, so we're okay. Boy I really look like I'm smiling, don't I? It was a nice day.
There's another picture of me with my brother. Boy he got big fast. He sure eats enough! I'm glad he got so big, though, because he was always brave and friendly, and I was always shy and small. His name is Lord Rooibos Chai, and he's still my best friend, even though we're both grown. When I lay an egg he comes running to see! And he lets me sleep in the same box with him. I'm so glad because I don't like to be alone. My human-mommy makes sure I have a warm box to hide in when I'm scared, and she lets me in the house when she can. I'm not really a farm-chickie.
I'm much more happy doing quiet things, like exploring with Rooi, and scratching in the hay to find seeds and bugs. I think many people don't really know chickens make BFFs (Best Feathered Friends) or have different personalities, or like different things. But we're just like people! Some are big and brave, some are small and shy. Some people like to go explore, and I'm sure some would rather look for bugs and seeds in the hay, like me. So I'm here to say it's okay to be shy. You're still special! If we were all the same, we'd all be quite bored, I'm sure!
