Sunburn the African Cichlid, the Pet of the Day
Name: Sunburn
Age: Unknown
Gender: Male
Kind: African Cichlid
Home: Southgate, Michigan, USA

Sunburn is a Ruby Red Peacock Cichlid (Aulonocara Rubescens). Sunburn was a new addition to my aquarium in August. I named him Sunburn because of the orange coloration on his otherwise blue body. Don't worry, he was born that way, it's not really sun damage! He shares a 75-gallon tank with eightother African cichlids, two plecos, and a hyperactive Pictus catfish named Freddie. While African cichlids are most often known for their aggressive behavior, Sunburn is the shy one in the bunch, not aggressve at all. In fact, he is the friendliest of them toward me, and will quickly swim to the front of the tank to say hello when I approach, whether or not there is food involved.

While Sunburn is a little smaller than some of my other fish, his appetite is just as big. I've been keeping cichlids for the past six years now, and they are both easy to take care of and fun to watch. I highly recommend them. Sunburn's cute personality makes him a very special fish to me.
